The flag carrier of Uganda, Uganda Airlines, is set to launch a new nonstop service between Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Entebbe, Uganda, and Moi International Airport (MBA) in Mombasa, Kenya. Effective 11 November 2019, the airline will operate three weekly return flights to Mombasa on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays on board a Bombardier CRJ900ER. The flight time between Entebbe and Mombasa is one hour and 50 minutes. Mombasa will be Uganda Airlines' seventh destination since the airline resumed operations in August 2019.

Qatar Airways to temporarily increase flights between Doha <> Mombasa!
The state-owned flag carrier of Qatar, Qatar Airways, is set to temporarily increase its flights between Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha and Moi International Airport (MBA) in Mombasa, Kenya. Effective 20 December 2019 and until the end of March 2020, the airline will be operating five instead of the current four weekly return flights to Mombasa. The additional flight on Fridays will depart Doha at 02:30 to arrive in Mombasa at 08:40h while the return flights will depart Mombasa at 16:50 to arrive in Doha at 23:05.

Italy: Air Italy to launch seasonal services to Mombasa and Zanzibar!
The second largest airline in Italy, privately owned Air Italy, is set to introduce seasonal services to Moi International Airport (MBA) in Mombasa in Kenya and Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) on Zanzibar in Tanzania. Starting from the end of October 2019, the airline will operate direct return flights from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) in Milan to Mombasa and Zanzibar on board an Airbus A330, equipped with 24 comfortable, fully reclining seats in Business and 228 in Economy. The first flight to Mombasa will take place on 27 October 2019, followed by the flight to Zanzibar on 29 October 2019.

Qatar Airways to launch direct flights between Doha <> Mombasa!
The state-owned flag carrier of Qatar, Qatar Airways, will launch direct flights between Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha and Moi International Airport (MBA) in Mombasa, Kenya. From 11 December 2018, the airline will operate four weekly flights on board an Airbus A320 with 12 Business Class seats and 120 Economy Class seats between the two destinations. The new service will be Qatar Airways' second Kenyan destination, in addition to existing flights to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi.

Kenya: New Madaraka Express train schedule from August 2018!
Kenya Railways (KR), the national railway of Kenya, has revised the schedule of the Madaraka Express. The revision of the old timetable and the introduction of the new schedule aims to improve the performance of the service, which operates between Kenya's capital Nairobi and the coastal city of Mombasa. The new schedule will be effective from 01 August 2018. Under the new schedule, the Inter-County train will leave Nairobi Terminus in Nairobi at 08:20 and arrive at Mombasa Terminus in Mombasa at 14:18 while the Express train will leave Nairobi at 14:35 to reach Mombasa at 19:18. The Inter-County train from Mombasa to Nairobi will leave at 08:00 to arrive in Nairobi at 13:42 while the Express train will leave at 15:15 to reach Nairobi at 20:14.
The changes of the schedule will not affect ticket prices, which were recently adjusted from Sh700 (approx. GBP5.50; €6.00; USD7.00; ZAR92.00) to Sh1000 (approx. GBP7.50; €8.50; USD10.00; ZAR130.00) in economy class from Nairobi <> Mombasa. One-way tickets for passengers in first class (Nairobi <> Mombasa) are Sh3000 (approx. GBP22.50; €25.50; USD30.00; ZAR400.00).

Kenya: A second Madaraka Express service between Nairobi <> Mombasa has been launched!
Kenya Railways has introduced a second trip on the Madaraka Express Passenger Service. The new service which will depart Nairobi and Mombasa at 15:30 will act as an express train (4hrs) and complement the existing morning service which has now been transformed into an inter-county train service (5hrs), departing at 8:00 from both Nairobi and Mombasa termini, and stopping at all the seven (Athi River, Emali, Kibwezi, Mtito Andei, Voi, Miasenyi and Mariakani) intermediate stations.
Tickets for the Madaraka Express train cost Sh700/person (5GBP, 6€, 7USD, 100ZAR) in economy class and Sh3000/person (22GBP, 25€, 29USD, 400ZAR) in business class. Tickets are available at the counter at the respective termini/stations between 07:00 and 16:00 (cash or debit/credit card), via mobile phone (M-pesa *639#) or by calling 0709 388888 (M-pesa). Customers are able to book a ride fourteen days before the date of travel.

The 472km Mombasa–Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is the country's biggest infrastructure project since independence. The passenger service named Madaraka Express operates three passenger trains between Nairobi and Mombasa: two Intercity Trains and one County Train. The Intercity Trains are express train between Nairobi and Mombasa while the County Train makes stops at the Intermediate Stations (Mariakani, Maisenyi, Voi, Mtito Andei, Kibwezi, Emali and Athi River).
An economy class ticket for the Madaraka Express costs Sh900 ($8.5; £6.7; €7.6), while a business class ticket is Sh3,000 ($28.5; £22.2; €25.6).
The Intercity Trains offer 1,200 seats per train and are operating at a maximum speed of 120 km/h. The travelling time between Nairobi and Mombasa is four hours and 30 minutes (bus: nine hours; previous railway: twelve hours). The County Train has the same seat capacity and is scheduled to have a travelling time of about five hours and 30 minutes.

Kenya: Passenger train service between Nairobi <> Mombasa temporarily suspended!
The popular passenger train service between Kenya's capital Nairobi and the coastal city of Mombasa has been temporarily suspended, as Rift Valley Railways (RVR) is set to refurbish all coaches. The upgrade of the 20 wagons will take about four month, so that services will most likely resume at the end of November 2016.
Rift Valley Railways usually operates two weekly trains (Mombasa Deluxe Service) between Nairobi and Mombasa on Mondays and Fridays (Nairobi > Mombasa) as well as on Tuesdays and Sundays (Mombasa > Nairobi). The cost of travelling first class is currently Sh4,405 (all inclusive), second class Sh3,385 (all inclusive) or Sh2,335 (fare/bed & breakfast) while third class travel is Sh680 (fare). Trains depart Nairobi/Mombasa at 19:00 in the evening and arrive in Mombasa/Nairobi at 10:00 next day morning.

Kenya introduces new incentives to boost tourism!
Kenya's president Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta has unveiled an incentive package to revitalise the tourism industry in Kenya at the opening of the English Point Marina in Mombasa, the first luxury yachting marina in Kenya.
- Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) fees will be capped at $60 (down from $90) for the 2016/17 financial year
- Value Added Tax (VAT) charges on National Park fees will be removed for the 2016/17 financial year
- Visa fees for children under 16 will be scrapped indefinitely from 01 February 2016
- The Ksh1.2bn charter incentive scheme continues until 30 June 2018. This waives landing fees at Moi International Airport (MBA) in Mombasa and Malindi Airport (MYD) in Malindi for all charter aircraft and provides at $30.00 (thirty dollar) rebate for all disembarking tourists
- expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi and Malindi Airport (MYD) in Malindi to handle greater numbers of visitors
- construction of the Port-Reitz-Airport Road in Mombasa
- construction of the Dongo Kundu bypass that will allow tourists to travel to the South Coast (Diani) without using the ferry
- Kenya Ferry Service (KFSL) will buy and operate two new ferries for the Likoni Channel crossing

Germany: Condor to launch new flights to Namibia, Kenya & Tanzania!
German airline Condor (Condor Flugdienst) is set to introduce flights between Munich Airport (MUC) in Munich (Germany) and Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) in Windhoek (Namibia), Munich and Moi International Airport (MBA) in Mombasa (Kenya) and between Munich and Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) on the island of Zanzibar (Tanzania) with the beginning of the (northern) summmer season 2016. Condor will operate one flight per week between Munich and the three new destinations in Africa.

Edelweiss Air continues Cape Town service; cancels Kilimanjaro & Mombasa
Swiss airline Edelweiss Air has announced that it will continue to offer two weekly direct flights between Zürich and Cape Town (Monday and Friday) in the 2014/15 (European) winter season. Due to the, according to the airline, strong decline in demand for flights to East Africa, the route Zürich - Kilimanjaro - Mombasa will no longer be included in the Edelweiss Air's 2014/15 winter timetable.

I just stumled on the promo video for Distant Relatives Ecolodge & Backpackers in Kenya, felt immediately like staying with them one day and, of course, recommending it to you. The backpackers is located in Kilifi, a coastal resort town about halfway between Mombasa and Malindi (about 60km either way). It was only opened in December 2012 and understands itself as "an experimental model of environmentally and socially conscious living". Distant Relatives offers one private room with ensuite shower and toilet, four private rooms with ensuite shower, five breezy safari tents, a campsite and two eight-bed dorms. Turkish Airlines to increase flights to Mombasa (Kenya)
Turkey's national flag carrier airline, Turkish Airlines, will increase its service between its main base at Atatürk International Airport in Istanbul and Moi International Airport in Mombasa (Kenya) via Kilimanjaro International Airport (Arusha/Moshi, Tanzania). Effective from 27 October 2013 the airline will operate daily flights between the destinations instead of the current five weekly frequencies.

The flag carrier of Turkey, Turkish Airlines, will increase its five-weekly service between Istanbul and Mombasa (Kenya) via Kilimanjaro (Tanzania). Effective 27 Oct 2013, the airline will operate daily flights between the three destinations instead of the current five frequencies per week. Turkish Airlines launched the route in December 2012.

Kenya: Fly540 and Qatar Airways sign interline agreement
Fly540, a regional low-cost carrier based in Nairobi (Kenya), has signed its first international interline agreement with Qatar Airways. According to the agreement, Qatar Airways' passengers will be able to connect with Fly540 flights at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi and fly to destinations within Fly540's network using one itinerary. Fly540's network includes destinations such as Eldoret in the Rift Valley, Kisumu at Lake Victoria, the island of Lamu, Malindi and Mombasa in Kenya's coast province as well as Juba in South Sudan and Zanzibar (Tanzania). Qatar Airways is currently operating two daily flights between Doha, capital of the State of Qatar, and Nairobi.

Condor to launch direct flights from Munich (Germany) and Vienna (Austria) to Mombasa
update (08 Nov 2013): Condor launched its seasonal Mombasa service on 05 November 2013. The airline operates its flights to Kenya from Munich via Vienna (Austria) to Mombasa.

Rwanda: Rwandair to resume direct flights between Mombasa (Kenya) & Dubai (UAE)
Rwanda's flag carrier, Rwandair, will resume direct flights on the Mombasa (Kenya) <> Dubai (UAE) route. From 02 February 2013 the airline will operate three weekly flights on board a Boeing 737-800 between the two destinations. As a result of the revised schedule, Rwandair will reduce its nonstop service on the Kigali (Rwanda) <> Dubai (UAE) route form currently seven weekly flights to four weekly flights.

Turkish Airlines to launch flights to Kilimanjaro (Tanzania) & Mombasa (Kenya)
Turkey's flag carrier, Turkish Airlines, announced that it will launch flights to Kilimanjaro (Tanzania) and Mombasa (Kenya). From 04 December 2012, the airline will be operating five weekly flights routed Istanbul (Turkey) - Kilimanjaro (Tanzania) - Mombasa (Kenya) - Istanbul (Turkey).

1time to suspend Johannesburg <> Mombasa (Kenya) service
Due to its current financial situation, South Africa's low cost carrier 1time will suspend operations between Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport and Mombasa in Kenya from 17 September 2012. The beleaguered airline launched the twice-weekly service between the two destinations only on 05 March 2012. If you are booked on a flight with 1time between Johannesburg <> Mombasa, it is advised to get hold of the airline as soon as possible.
1time applied for "Business Rescue", which is similar to the process of "Chapter 11" in the USA, on 21 August 2012. "Business Rescue" aims at assisting with the rehabilitation of a company in financial distress. It provides temporary moratorium from creditors under legal supervision in clearly defined terms. 1time hopes to be back on track within the next three month.
