South Africa: Budget airline 1time filed for liquidation

update (07 Nov 2012): 1time Spokesperson Refilwe Masemola confirmed today, that the airline was granted provisional liquidation by the High Court in Pretoria. An estimated 520 workers would be left jobless by the liquidation.

South Africa's most punctual domestic airline, 1time, has confirmed it has filed for liquidation on 02 November 2012. All fligths of the airline are canceled.

South Africa's most punctual domestic airlines in October 2012

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has published the on-time performance results of domestic airlines’ flying out of OR Tambo in Johannesburg, Cape Town International Airport, and Durban's King Shaka International Airport in October 2012.
On-Time Performance is measured by comparing the actual off-block time (when aircraft pushes back) against the airline schedule time for a departing flight. The measurement is done in accordance with the IATA (International Airlines Transport Association) universal standard benchmark with considers a 15 minute deviation from the scheduled time as an on-time departure.

FreshAir to commence flights between Johannesburg <> Victoria Falls in November 2012

update (12 Nov 2012): According to news reports, FreshAir has announced  plans to resume operations from as early as December with another operator. 51% shareholder Nu-Aero (49% belong to 1time) is currently planning to find a new operator that will operate between Victoria Falls and  OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on its behalf. 

update (03 Nov 2012): 1time's liquidation puts indoubt the joint venture between the South African airline and its Zimbabwean partner Nu.Com (Pvt) Ltd (Nu-Aero).

The new Zimbabwean registered low cost airline FreshAir, a joint venture between Nu.Com (Pvt) Ltd (Nu-Aero) from Zimbabwe and South African budget carrier 1time, announced that it will start operating flights between OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg and Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, on 02 November 2012. FreshAir will, as it stands, operate three weekly flights on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays between the two destinations. In favour of the new airline, 1time is terminating its current Johannesburg <> Livingstone (Zambia) flights and will subsequently replace it with flights between OR Tambo International Airport and Victoria Falls.

South African Airways is "Africa's Leading Airline" for the 19th consecutive year!

At least according to the 19th World Travel Awards, 2012 was quite a succesful year for the South African aviation industry. South African Airways won the award as "Africa's Leading Airline" for the 19th time in a row. The flag carrier of South Africa also got named "Africa's Leading Airline Economy Class". Budget airline 1time, currently South Africa's most punctual airline, got recognised as "Africa's Leading Low-Cost Airline" for the fourth consecutive year and O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg was awarded with "Africa's Leading Airport 2012" for the 6th time in a row. Congratulations!
The World Travel Awards was launched in 1993 to acknowledge and recognise excellence in the global travel and tourism industry. Now celebrating its 19th anniversary, it is regarded as the very highest achievement that a travel product could hope to receive.

1time to suspend Johannesburg <> Mombasa (Kenya) service

Due to its current financial situation, South Africa's low cost carrier 1time will suspend operations between Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport and Mombasa in Kenya from 17 September 2012. The beleaguered airline launched the twice-weekly service between the two destinations only on 05 March 2012. If you are booked on a flight with 1time between Johannesburg <> Mombasa, it is advised to get hold of the airline as soon as possible.
1time applied for "Business Rescue", which is similar to the process of "Chapter 11" in the USA, on 21 August 2012. "Business Rescue" aims at assisting with the rehabilitation of a company in financial distress. It provides temporary moratorium from creditors under legal supervision in clearly defined terms. 1time hopes to be back on track within the next three month.
