Kenya Railways has introduced a second trip on the Madaraka Express Passenger Service. The new service which will depart Nairobi and Mombasa at 15:30 will act as an express train (4hrs) and complement the existing morning service which has now been transformed into an inter-county train service (5hrs), departing at 8:00 from both Nairobi and Mombasa termini, and stopping at all the seven (Athi River, Emali, Kibwezi, Mtito Andei, Voi, Miasenyi and Mariakani) intermediate stations.
Tickets for the Madaraka Express train cost Sh700/person (5GBP, 6€, 7USD, 100ZAR) in economy class and Sh3000/person (22GBP, 25€, 29USD, 400ZAR) in business class. Tickets are available at the counter at the respective termini/stations between 07:00 and 16:00 (cash or debit/credit card), via mobile phone (M-pesa *639#) or by calling 0709 388888 (M-pesa). Customers are able to book a ride fourteen days before the date of travel.
