South African flag carrier, South African Airways (SAA), has announced a significant increase in its flight frequencies to key African destinations, starting next month. Starting in November 2024, SAA will operate 12 weekly flights to both RG Mugabe International Airport (HRE) in Harare and Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka, up from the current 10 times a week to Harare and up from 7 to Lusaka. Flights to Lagos (Nigeria) and Accra (Ghana) will increase to four times a week, up from three weekly flights. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), SAA will enhance its presence by flying five times a week to N'djili Airport (FIH) in Kinshasa. Domestically, SAA will increase its flights to Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport (PLZ) in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) to three times a day.
South African Airways (SAA) is also set to increase the frequency of its flights to Mauritius and Perth in Western Australia. The airline will begin flying twice daily to Mauritius from the beginning of December 2024 to coincide with peak holiday season. The first additional frequency to Perth will commence in December 2024 and the second will be added from January 2025, taking the number of return flights to Perth five times a week.

South Africa: South African Airways is adjusting its flight schedules!
South African Airways (SAA) has announced that it is adjusting its flight schedules to accommodate passenger requirements. The airline will remove from the schedule its daily return service OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg and Maputo International Airport (MPM) in Maputo in Mozambique. The decision is effective from 01 December 2021, and passengers holding tickets will be re-accommodated on codeshare flights operated by LAM - Mozambique Airlines.
Other adjustments being made for the December ’21 and January ’22 holiday season, are due to the expected slow demand on traditionally non-travel days, as customers spend their time with families and friends.
Return flights to Accra in Ghana have been adjusted and will not operate on 25 December 2021 and 01 January 2022. Kinshasa, DR Congo flights have been adjusted and will not operate on 24 December 2021 and 31 December 2021. All Passengers will be re-accommodated on the next available SAA flights.
South African Airways (SAA) had operated 4 days a week to Lusaka in Zambia since September to 30 November 2021. The airline had scheduled additional frequencies to fly 7 days a week from December 2021, however further adjustments was made to the schedule to operate 5 days a week from 01 December 2021. Affected passengers will be re-accommodated on the next available SAA flights.
South African Airways is advising customers to refer to issuing offices for assistance. Passengers who no longer wish to travel may cancel their booking and are able to receive a full refund (inclusive of taxes) or opt for the credit voucher which will be offered to the original form of payment.

South African Airways and Africa World Airlines currently have an interline agreement established in 2018 and it provides seamless connections for their customers to/from Abuja, Lagos, Monrovia, Freetown, Kumasi, Tamale, Wa and Takoradi over Accra, to South African Airways mainline flights to/from Johannesburg and Washington, DC.

South Africa: Travellers from four new countries have been granted visa-free status! [update]
South Africa's Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi, has announced that nationals from four of the seven countries he granted visa-free status during his Budget Vote speech in July 2019 are now able to travel to South Africa without visas. Effective today (15 August 2019), travellers from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and New Zealand no longer require a visa to visit South Africa for holidays, conferencing and business meeting visits. Visa waivers for Ghana, Cuba and Principe and Sao Tome will be implemented after negotiations with these countries have been concluded. The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) is scheduled to complete these negotiations by the end of August 2019 and the implementation will follow soon thereafter. We'll keep you posted!

South Africa waives visa requirements for seven countries including New Zealand! [update]
South Africa's Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi, has announced on the occation of the Home Affairs Budget Vote 2019 that South Africa has scrapped visa requirements for seven countries, including New Zealand. According to the Minister, the Deparment of Home Affairs (DHA) will with immediate effect enter into discussions with these seven countries about how a visa-free regime will work. The following countries will be able to enter South Africa, visa-free:
- Qatar
- United Arab Emirates
- New Zealand
- Saudi Arabia
- Cuba
- Ghana
- Sao Tome and Principe

Namibia's flag carrier, Air Namibia, has postponed the launch of scheduled flights to Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos, Nigeria, and to Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra, Ghana, from 25 March 2018 to 29 June 2018. According to a statement by the airline, the postponement is due to external factors such as the non-availability of a departure slot at Kotoka International Airport (ACC) to support the initial scheduled departure at 22:05.

Delta Airlines celebrates 5 years of servicing Africa
Delta launched its first flight between Atlanta and Johannesburg, South Africa, via Dakar, Senegal, on 04 Dec 2006. A week later, it began serving Accra, Ghana, from its hub at New York-JFK. It was the first major U.S. airline to operate nonstop service between the United States and Africa since Pan Am suspended flights in the 1980s.
In the years since those first historic flights, Delta's Africa service has continued to expand and today the airline is the leading U.S. carrier to Africa, with service to six African cities in five countries.
On 01 Dec 2011, Delta Air Lines expanded its African network to offer nonstop flights between Accra, Ghana, and Abuja, Nigeria, in partnership with Air Nigeria. The service operates twice weekly using Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, equipped with 36 BusinessElite seats, 29 seats in Economy Comfort and 143 seats in Economy.
