South African Airways (SAA): More flights to key destinations!

South African flag carrier, South African Airways (SAA), has announced a significant increase in its flight frequencies to key African destinations, starting next month. Starting in November 2024, SAA will operate 12 weekly flights to both RG Mugabe International Airport (HRE) in Harare and Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka, up from the current 10 times a week to Harare and up from 7 to Lusaka. Flights to Lagos (Nigeria) and Accra (Ghana) will increase to four times a week, up from three weekly flights. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), SAA will enhance its presence by flying five times a week to N'djili Airport (FIH) in Kinshasa. Domestically, SAA will increase its flights to Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport (PLZ) in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) to three times a day.

South African Airways (SAA)
is also set to increase the frequency of its flights to Mauritius and Perth in Western Australia. The airline will begin flying twice daily to Mauritius from the beginning of December 2024 to coincide with peak holiday season. The first additional frequency to Perth will commence in December 2024 and the second will be added from January 2025, taking the number of return flights to Perth five times a week.

Omicron variant: UK removes South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe etc. from the travel red list!

According to the Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps, the Government of the United Kingdom is set to remove all eleven countries from the travel red list as of 15 December 2021 at 04:00. The list, which was reintroduced in late November 2021 as a precaution after the emergence of the Omicron variant, currently includes South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Eswatini, Lesotho, Angola as well as Nigeria. The UK Government has announced that because the spread of Omicron has been so wide, there is no need for any countries to be included on the red list at the moment.

South African Airways to resume flights to Nigeria!

South African Airways (SAA) has announced the resumption of flights to Nigeria. The airline will launch a three weekly direct service between OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg and Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos, Nigeria, on 12 December 2021. South African Airways (SAA) has been flying to Nigeria for the past 23 years and the resumption of the service is a welcome addition to its growing continental offering.

Air Namibia suspended its service to Lagos & Accra!

Namibia's flag carrier, Air Namibia, has suspended its service between Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) in Windhoek and Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra, Ghana, via Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos, Nigeria, effective today, 24 May 2019. The airline launched the route at the end of June 2018. According to a statement by Air Namibia, the load factor performance of the route dropped from average 55% attained during June 2018 to January 2019, to between 35% and 38% during February to April 2019. Affected passengers will be assisted by accommodating them on flights operated by Air Namibia's partner airlines at the airline's cost, or they will be refunded if they opt not to fly anymore.

West Africa: ASKY Airlines to launch flights to South Africa!

West African airline, ASKY Airlines, is set to launch to new routes to South Africa in June 2019. From it's hub at Lomé–Tokoin Airport (LFW) in Lomé, Togo, the airline will operate a three weekly return service via Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos, Nigeria, and Douala International Airport (DLA) in Douala, Cameroon, to OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg. The service commence on 16 June 2019. On 15 June 2019, ASKY Airlines will launch a four weekly return service between Lomé–Tokoin Airport (LFW) in Lomé and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg via Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos and Léon-Mba International Airport (LBV) in Libreville, Gabon.

South African Airways increases West African connectivity!

South Africa's flag carrier, South African Airways (SAA), and Ghanaian airline Africa World Airlines Limited (AWA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU allows the two airlines to enhance their relationship through synergies that include code sharing, franchising and any other related projects.
South African Airways and Africa World Airlines formed a relationship in 2015, which resulted in the lauch of scheduled services between Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Washington D.C. in the USA. The relationship between the two airlines has since grown from the original commercial co-operation into the new interline commercial agreement. Over the coming months the interline agreement will evolve into a code share agreement.
SAA customers will then travel on one ticket from Johannesburg to
Accra, or from Washington D.C. to Accra, and onwards to a number of destinations such as Kumasi in central Ghana, Tamale in the north, and Takoradi in the west. SAA customers will also be able to connect from Accra to Lagos and Abuja in Nigeria, Freetown in Sierra Leone, and Monrovia in Liberia.
In turn, customers of Africa World Airlines travelling from Ghana,
Lagos, Abuja, Freetown, and Monrovia, are able to travel on one ticket from any AWA point of origin and connect onto SAA international flights to either Washington D.C. or Johannesburg, or further on the SAA network.
With effect from April 2019 South African Airways will increase the frequency from
Accra to Washington D.C. currently four to five flights per week. The airline offers the only nonstop flight between Ghana and Washington D.C. and convenient connections to / from over 100 cities across the U.S. and Canada through its Star Alliance partner, United Airlines viaWashington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Washington D.C..

Air Namibia to launch flights to Lagos & Accra!

Namibia's flag carrier, Air Namibia, will commence its service between Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) in Windhoek and Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra, Ghana, via Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos, Nigeria, on 29 June 2018. The airline will service the new route with an Airbus A319, offering a seat configuration of 16 business class and 96 economy class seats as well as two tonnes of cargo space. Air Namibia initially planned to launch the service to West Africa in March 2018, but had to postpone it due to external factors.

Namibia: Air Namibia postponed the launch of Windhoek-Lagos-Accra flights!



Namibia's flag carrier, Air Namibia, has postponed the launch of scheduled flights to Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos, Nigeria, and to Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra, Ghana, from 25 March 2018 to 29 June 2018. According to a statement by the airline, the postponement is due to external factors such as the non-availability of a departure slot at Kotoka International Airport (ACC) to support the initial scheduled departure at 22:05.

Air Namibia to launch flights to Lagos & Accra!

Namibia's flag carrier, Air Namibia, is set to launch flights to Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos, Nigeria, and to Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra, Ghana, on 25 March 2018. The routing for the two new destinations will be Windhoek - Lagos - Accra and the return will be Accra - Lagos - Windhoek. Air Namibia will operate four weekly flights between Windhoek's Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH), Lagos and Accra on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on board an Airbus A319-100 aircraft

Delta Airlines celebrates 5 years of servicing Africa

Delta Air Lines, based in the United States, marked its fifth anniversary of nonstop service between the United States and Africa last weekend.
Delta launched its first flight between Atlanta and Johannesburg, South Africa, via Dakar, Senegal, on 04 Dec 2006. A week later, it began serving Accra, Ghana, from its hub at New York-JFK. It was the first major U.S. airline to operate nonstop service between the United States and Africa since Pan Am suspended flights in the 1980s.
In the years since those first historic flights, Delta's Africa service has continued to expand and today the airline is the leading U.S. carrier to Africa, with service to six African cities in five countries.
On 01 Dec 2011, Delta Air Lines expanded its African network to offer nonstop flights between Accra, Ghana, and Abuja, Nigeria, in partnership with Air Nigeria. The service operates twice weekly using Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, equipped with 36 BusinessElite seats, 29 seats in Economy Comfort and 143 seats in Economy.

Air Namibia & Air Nigeria sign codeshare agreement

Namibia's flag carrier Air Namibia has recently signed a code share agreement with Air Nigeria for seamless flights on the Southern Africa routes, with a connecting flight from Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. Air Nigeria (formerly Nigerian Eagle Airlines and Virgin Nigeria Airways), is the national flag carrier of Nigeria. The airline has already code share agreements with Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and Delta Air Lines.
Air Namibia's Executive Officer (CEO), Ms Theo Namase, told reporters in Lagos that there would be direct flights between Nigeria and Namibia soon, adding that, in the meantime, the airline is using Accra, the Ghanaian capital, to link its destinations. Air Namibia commenced operations in West Africa into Accra in November 2010.
