KLM & Kulula have signed a codeshare agreement!
The flag carrier airline of the Netherlands, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, and South African low-cost airline Kulula.com have signed a codeshare agreement to expand both airlines' network. Effective 29 May 2018, KLM will add a KL code to kulula.com's domestic route network in South Africa, enabling KLM's passengers from around the world connecting in Johannesburg and Cape Town to continue with a single ticket issue and a one-stop check-in and baggage transfer to:

Emirates and flydubai further expanded their partnership, now including Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar!
Dubai-based Emirates, the largest airline in the Middle East, and flydubai, a low-cost airline also based in Dubai, have expanded their existing codeshare agreement. The new, expanded network now includes 16 additional destinations to which Emirates' passengers will be able travel on a single ticket including Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRE) in northern Tanzania and Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) onthe island of Zanzibar.

South African Airways & Virgin Australia sign codeshare agreement
South Africa's flag carrier, South African Airways (SAA), and Virgin Australia, one of Australia’s largest domestic airlines, have signed a new codeshare agreement. SAA flies daily between Johannesburg and Perth and this new partnership offers South African Airways customers expanded access across Australia to domestic destinations such as Melbourne, Brisbane, and Adelaide. In return, travellers flying to Africa from Australia using Virgin Australia services will have access to South Africa Airways' network on the African continent. Customers will also have the benefit of through checking their baggage and receiving boarding passes from Johannesburg to their end destination in Australia, and onto any destination in Africa served by SAA when flying from Australia.
Virgin Australia has been an interline partner of South African Airways since July 2010 where the two airlines had a commercial agreement to handle those customers travelling on both airlines. They are now expanding this relationship into a codeshare agreement. The codeshare is open for sale from 07 February 2014 and for travel from 11 February 2014.

South African Airways extends code share agreement with Mango
South Africa's flag carrier, South African Airways (SAA), has extended its code share agreement with stable mate low cost airline Mango. Effective 13 December 2013, the codeshare agreement also includes the routes between Johannesburg to Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth and George, as well as between Cape Town and Bloemfontein and Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. The already existing code share agreement covered flights between Cape Town and Durban and between Lanseria Airport (Johannesburg) and Cape Town.
Mango will continue to be the operating carrier with South African Airways placing its code "SA" on the flights as the marketing carrier. SAA customers will therefore travel on a ticket starting with "SA" and then the flight number, while Mango customers will travel on a ticket starting with the "JE" code.

South African Airways & RwandAir sign codeshare agreement
South Africa's flag carrier, South African Airways (SAA), and the national carrier of Rwanda, RwandAir, have signed a bilateral codeshare agreement. Under the new agreement, South African Airways will place its "SA" code on RwandAir's seven flights per week between Kigali International Airport (IATA: KGL) Kigali, Rwanda, and OR Tambo International Airport (IATA: JNB) in Johannesburg, South Africa. SAA in turn will no longer operate flights between the two destinations. The codeshare agreement between South African Airways and RwandAir will come into effect on 07 Dec 2013.

South African Airways & Air Seychelles extend codeshare network
South Africa's flag carrier, South African Airways (SAA), and the national airline of the Seychelles, Air Seychelles, have extended their codeshare agreement. The new deal will see Air Seychelles place its "HM" code on 18 SAA flights per week between Johannesburg and Cape Town, Durban, and Port Elizabeth, and five SAA flights per week between Johannesburg and East London. South African Airways in turn will place its "SA" code on six Air Seychelles flights per week between Mahé and Praslin.
South African Airways and Air Seychelles have also partnered on five additional flights between Mahé and Johannesburg on 14/21/28 December 2013 and 04/11 January 2014 to cater for the busy holiday season.

South African Airways & TAM Airlines (Brazil) signed codeshare agreement
South Africa's flag carrier, South African Airways (SAA) and Brazilian carrier TAM Airlines have signed a codeshare agreement. South African Airways' code "SA" will be placed on flights operated by TAM from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Brasilia, Salvador, Florianopolis, Iguaçu Falls, Recife, Belo Horizonte, while TAM Airlines' code "JJ" will be placed on flights operated by SAA between Sao Paulo and Johannesburg, and to other cities within South Africa, namely, Cape Town, Durban, East London and Port Elizabeth.
To date, South African Airways operates 11 flights per week between Johannesburg and Sao Paulo. Tickets went on sale today (29 Aug 2013), with travel set to commence on 02 Sept 2013.
TAM Airlines is the largest Brazilian airline company by market share and fleet size. The airline, which is headquartered in Sao Paulo, operates scheduled services to destinations within Brazil, as well as international flights to Europe and other parts of North and South America.

Rwandair & Air Uganda sign codeshare agreement
Rwanda's national airline, Rwandair, and Air Uganda, a privately owned carrier from Uganda, signed a codeshare agreement. According to the agreement, both airlines offer at least 3 flights daily between Kigali International Airport (KGL) in Kigali (Rwanda) and Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Entebbe (Uganda) and can sell tickets on either carrier with passengers being free to choose which flight to take at their convenience. Rwandair and Air Uganda will also work together to provide interconnections to other points in their respective networks, as well as to develop business and tourism in both countries. The codeshare agreement is effective immediately.

Air Namibia & Kenya Airways sign codeshare agreement
update (30 July 2013): Kenya Airways has confirmed the codeshare agreement with Air Namibia. According to the press release, tickets already went on sale on 20 June 2013.
According to various news reports, the national airline of Namibia, Air Namibia, and Kenya's flag carrier, Kenya Airways, have signed a codeshare agreement. Under the codeshare agreement, Air Namibia will place its "SW" code on Kenya Airways flights from Lusaka (Zambia) and Johannesburg (South Africa) to Nairobi (Kenya), while Kenya Airways will place its "KQ" code on Air Namibia flights from Johannesburg (South Africa) and Lusaka (Zambia) to Windhoek (Namibia). We'll keep you posted as soon as we know more.

South African Airways and Air Seychelles to codeshare
South Africa's flag carrier, South African Airways, and the national airline of the Seychelles, Air Seychelles, have signed a codeshare agreement. In the first phase of the agreement, South African Airways will place its code (SA) on Air Seychelles' non-stop flights between Johannesburg and Seychelles International Airport on the island of Mahé. The airline will also place its code on flights between the two largest islands of Seychelles, Mahé and Praslin, subject to approvals.
Under the codeshare, passengers from South Africa can currently travel from 26 South African destinations to the Seychelles on a single ticket.
In a later extension of the partnership, South African Airways' direct flights from Johannesburg to other South African destinations may also carry Air Seychelles' code (HM). Ticket sales are set to open on 29 April 2013, for travel from 30 April 2013.
Under the codeshare, passengers from South Africa can currently travel from 26 South African destinations to the Seychelles on a single ticket.

South African Airways & US Airways signed bilateral code share agreement
South Africa's flag carrier, South African Airways (SAA), and Star Alliance member US Airways, based in Tempe (Arizona), signed a new bilateral code share agreement after receiving approval from the Department of Transport – South Africa and U.S. Department of Transportation.
SAA's passengers will receive expanded access to and throughout the United States, along with the convenience of a single-ticket purchase. Conversely, customers traveling on US Airways will gain new access to destinations throughout South Africa and to Dakar, Senegal (subject to US Airways securing approval from Senegalese authorities).
South African Airways' customers will have access to US Airways’ hub cities of Charlotte in North Carolina and Phoenix as well as various destinations within the United States.
Equally, US Airways customers will have access to South African Airways' hub in Johannesburg as well as convenient connections to Cape Town, Durban, East London and Port Elizabeth in South Africa. Customers will also have access to Dakar, Senega,l via SAA's Washington <> Johannesburg service. All fights will be available for sale and for travel from 19 December 2012.

Kenya Airways signs code share agreement with Vietnam Airlines
The national carrier of Kenya, Kenya Airways, and the national flag carrier of Vietnam, Vietnam Airlines, have signed a code share agreement. The two airlines, which are both members of the SkyTeam alliance, are currently activating a reciprocal code share agreement.
Under the agreement with Vietnam Airlines, Kenya Airways passengers will be able to travel from Nairobi via Bangkok (Thailand) on to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam and vice versa daily. While Vietnam Airlines will code share on daily Kenya Airways service between Bangkok and Nairobi.
Kenya Airways is currently flying to 59 destinations worldwide, 47 of which are in Africa and carries over three million passengers annually.

Kenya Airways KQ signs codeshare agreement with Korean Air
Geat news for Korean travellers planning to visit Kenya and East Africa. Korean Air, both the flag carrier and the largest airline of South Korea, and Kenya's national airline, Kenya Airways, have signed a codeshare agreement.
The flights from Seoul in South Korea to Nairobi (Kenya) will take off every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday night at 20:45, arriving in Nairobi the next morning at 05:05, so that travellers have a convenient connection to the entire range of domestic, regional and international flights via Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO).
Flights from Nairobi to Seoul will depart every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday and at 10:30 in the morning, arriving at Incheon International Airport (ICN) in Seoul at 04:40 the next morning.

Qantas & South African Airways scored two year extension of code-share alliance
update (23 Nov 2012): The Australian International Air Services Commission (IASC) has granted permission to Qantas for seven weekly services on the South African route, and to South African Airways to codeshare on Qantas’ South African flights until 31 December 2014.
South Africa's flag carrier, South African Airways, and Australia's national carrier, Qantas, have been granted a two-year extension of their code-share alliance on flights between Johannesburg and Sydney in Australia.
Qantas had applied for a four-year extension to the agreement with the International Air Services Commission (IASC), but the independent Australian Government agency only granted approval for two additional years. The IASC said in a statement that it was not satisfied that the code share would be of benefit to the public beyond 31 December 2014.
Qantas and South African Airways are currently the only carriers that operate nonstop flights between Australian airports and South Africa. The two airlines started to code-share flights between Australia and South Africa in December 2000. For more information on the decision of the IASC click here (pdf).
