TAAG Angola Airlines to fully move operations to Luanda’s new international airport on 19 October 2025!

TAAG Angola Airlines has announced that it will fully transfer its international flight operations to the new Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN) on 19 October 2025. This move marks the long-awaited completion of the airline’s phased transition to Luanda’s modern aviation hub.

From this date, all flights to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Lisbon, São Paulo, Lagos, Windhoek, São Tomé, Maputo, Nairobi, and seasonal routes such as Porto and Havana will operate exclusively from the new airport. To support travellers, shuttle services from the old Quatro de Fevereiro Airport (LAD) will be available during the transition.

About the new airport
The Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN), located approximately 40 km southeast of Luanda, is set to become one of Africa’s largest and most modern aviation hubs. Designed to handle up to 15 million passengers annually, the facility is expected to strengthen Angola’s role as a strategic connector between Africa, Europe, and South America, offering modern terminals, improved check-in systems, and enhanced passenger amenities.

Delayed transition
Originally, the Angolan government planned to complete the migration of all international flights by 1 June 2025. However, the deadline was pushed back to September 2025 and then to October 2025 due to incomplete infrastructure and operational challenges, particularly concerning road access and airport logistics.

The move to AIAAN represents a significant milestone for Angola’s aviation sector, promising smoother travel experiences and better connectivity for both regional and international passengers.

Angola: TAAG Angola Airlines delays international flight move to new Luanda airport!

TAAG Angola Airlines has officially announced a postponement of its move of all international flights from Luanda’s Quatro de Fevereiro Airport (LAD) to the brand-new Dr António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN). The transfer, which was originally scheduled for 15 September 2025, will no longer go ahead on that date, marking yet another shift in Angola’s ambitious airport transition timeline.

Background: Angola’s new aviation gateway
Dr António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN), located about 40 km southeast of Luanda, is set to become one of the largest and most modern aviation hubs in Africa. Designed to handle 15 million passengers annually, the facility is expected to boost Angola’s role as a strategic connector between Africa, Europe, and South America.
Originally, the Angolan government planned to complete the migration of all international flights from 01 June 2025, but that target was pushed back to October 2025 due to incomplete infrastructure and operational challenges, particularly regarding road access and logistics.

TAAG’s shift in timeline
In June 2025, TAAG Angola Airlines had reassured passengers that all its international flights - including routes to Lisbon, São Paulo, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Lagos, Windhoek, São Tomé, and Maputo  - would be transferred to the new airport from 15 September 2025, with Brazzaville and Kinshasa already operating from AIAAN.
However, the airline has now officially postponed this transfer due to "the ongoing optimisation of operational conditions for the transfer", aligning more closely with the government’s October 2025 timeframe. No new fixed date has been announced yet.

What passengers need to know:

• Until further notice, all TAAG Angola Airlines international flights will continue to depart and arrive at Luanda’s Quatro de Fevereiro Airport (LAD).
• Travellers booked for flights after 15 September 2025 should check for updates directly with TAAG Angola Airlines.
• A new transfer date will be communicated once it is agreed with Angolan transport authorities and other stakeholders.

TAAG Angola Airlines launches direct flights between Luanda and Nairobi!

TAAG Angola Airlines is strengthening its footprint in East Africa! Starting today, 01 September 2025, the national carrier of Angola will officially launch direct passenger flights between Luanda (Angola) and Nairobi (Kenya). The new route will operate three times a week, offering seamless travel between Southern and Eastern Africa.
The Luanda <> Nairobi flights will be operated with TAAG’s state-of-the-art Airbus A220-300, known for its fuel efficiency, comfort, and modern onboard experience. Angola: TAAG Angola Airlines increases flights to Namibia, Mozambique & Brazil!

TAAG Angola Airlines, the flag carrier of Angola, is set to increase flights to Windhoek in Namibia, Maputo in Mozambique and São Paulo in Brazil. Flights to the Namibian capital will increase to seven weekly connections, flights to the capital of Mozambique will increase to five weekly frequencies and flights to São Paulo to six weekly operations. The additional flights to Windhoek (on Fridays), Maputo (on Wednesdays) and São Paulo (on Mondays) will be introduced from 11 December 2023.

Angola: TAAG increases flights between Luanda <> São Paulo!

The state-owned flag carrier of Angola, TAAG Angola Airlines, is set to introduce an additional frequency to its schedule between Angola and Brazil. The airline, which recently signed a codeshare agreement with Brazilian low-cost airline GOL Linhas Aéreas, will increase its flights between Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport (LAD) in Luanda and São Paulo/Guarulhos – Governor André Franco Montoro International Airport (GRU) in São Paulo from currently five weekly operations to six from 02 August 2023. The new frequency will be added on Wednesdays.

Angola: TAAG & GOL (Brazil) sign a codeshare agreement!

The state-owned flag carrier of Angola, TAAG Angola Airlines, and Brazilian low-cost airline GOL Linhas Aéreas have signed a codeshare agreement. Under the new agreement, which becomes effective on 17 April 2023, TAAG will add its flight code to 13 domestic destinations in Brazil served by GOL from São Paulo/Guarulhos – Governor André Franco Montoro International Airport (GRU) in São Paulo, namely Rio de Janeiro (GIG & SDU), Belo Horizonte (CNF), Recife (REC), Porto Alegre (POA), Curitiba (CWB), Salvador (SSA), Brasília (BSB), Goiánia (GYN), Florianópolis (FLN), Fortaleza (FOR), Foz do Iguaçu (IGU) and Natal (NAT). TAAG will also have the option to connect passengers to regional geographies operated by GOL on an interline basis.
In return, GOL will place its flight code on TAAG's five weekly service between Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport (LAD) in Luanda and São Paulo, with the option of marketing other TAAG destinations including Lisbon (Portugal), Madrid (Spain), Johannesburg, Cape Town (South Africa), Windhoek (Namibia) and Maputo (Mozambique).
TAAG and GOL will progressively add more destinations to the codeshare agreement.

Angola: TAAG increases flights to Portugal!

The state-owned flag carrier of Angola, TAAG Angola Airlines, increases the number of flights to Portugal. Effective today (28 March 2023), the airline is adding a new frequency to its schedule between Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport (LAD) in Luanda and Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) in Lisbon, making 14 weekly frequencies overall with double daily flights.
TAAG's Luanda <> Lisbon connection is one of the most consolidated routes within the airline's operation. Between January and February 2023, TAAG transported 39,306 passengers on the Luanda <> Lisbon route, meaning the airline was able to double the figures from the same period last year, where 18,8798 passengers were transported.

Angola: TAAG expands network in Europa through codeshare with Iberia!

The state-owned flag carrier of Angola, TAAG Angola Airlines, has expanded its network of destinations in Europe and domestic connections in Spain through its codeshare agreement with the flag carrier airline of Spain, Iberia. From now on, TAAG customers and passengers will be able to travel on a codeshare basis to London (United Kingdom), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Rome, Milan (Italy), Geneva, Zurich (Switzerland), Brussels (Belgium) and Porto (Portugal). Domestic destinations in Spain are also included, namely Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Gran Canaria, Vigo, Malaga, Bilbao, Valencia and Seville.
Under the agreement between the two airlines, the Africa <> Europe route (Luanda/ Madrid/Luanda) is operated by TAAG, with the Europe <> Europe connections carried out by Iberia.

Angola: TAAG to increase flights between Luanda <> Madrid!

The state-owned flag carrier of Angola, TAAG Angola Airlines, is set to increase operations to Spain. Effective 01 November 2022, the airline will introduce an additonal flight between Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport (LAD) in Luanda and Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD) in Madrid. The flight will be operated on Tuesdays (LAD > MAD) and on Wednesdays (MAD > LAD) and brings the number of weekly return flights from two to three.

The additional flight will be operated as follows:

• Luanda 22:05 > 05:20+1 Madrid
• Madrid 22:55 > 06:25+1 Luanda

Angola: TAAG Angola to launch flights to Durban!

The state-owned flag carrier of Angola, TAAG Angola Airlines, is set to launch a new service to South Africa. Effective 17 November 2022, the airline will introduce a three-weekly service between Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport (LAD) in Luanda and King Shaka International Airport (DUR) in Durban in KwaZulu-Natal. Flights will be operated on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays on board a Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

Angola: TAAG to launch flights between Luanda <> Madrid!

The state-owned flag carrier of Angola, TAAG Angola Airlines, and the flag carrier airline of Spain, Iberia, have signed a codeshare and interline agreement for the new Luanda <> Madrid route and beyond. Effective 27 June 2022, TAAG will operate two weekly flights between Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport (LAD) in Luanda and Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD) in Madrid. The new route will be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER with a capacity of 293 seats.
The new codeshare and interline agreement allows customers of TAAG Angola Airlines and Iberia to benefit from the international network of both carriers. Iberia operates flights to 134 destinations in 43 countries; for TAAG, Madrid becomes the 10th international destination from the Luanda hub, in addition to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Windhoek, Maputo, Kinshasa, Lagos, Lisbon, São Paulo and São Tomé. 

btw - Iberia previously operated the Madrid <> Luanda route between 2011 and 2016 but suspended it due to low passenger loads.

TAAG Angola to increase flights between Luanda <> Maputo!

The state-owned national airline of Angola, TAAG Angola Airlines, is set to increase flights between Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport (LAD) in Luanda and and Maputo International Airport (MPM) in Maputo during the Northern winter season 2018/19. From 30 October 2018, the airline will increase the number of flights from the current three weekly flights to five weekly flights. The additional services will be operated in the evening/overnight on board a Boeing 737-700.

TAAG Angola to increase flights between Luanda <> Johannesburg!

The state-owned national airline of Angola, TAAG Angola Airlines, is set to increase flights between Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport (LAD) in Luanda and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg during the Northern winter season 2018/2019 by introducing a new evening service. Effective 28 October 2018, the airline is going to operate 13 weekly flights instead of the current seven weekly flights on board a Boeing 737-700 between the two destinations.
