IATA suspends Air Zimbabwe

update (17 May 2011): Despite the suspension from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Air Zimbabwe is running flights on their domestic and international routes.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has suspended Zimbabwe’s debt-ridden national carrier from all international financial and flight booking services. Air Zimbabwe still can fly, but can now only make use of its own booking facilities. It is assumed that the airline will therefore suffer a sharp drop in bookings by passengers who are not from Zimbabwe. IATA has suspended Air Zimbabwe with immediate effect as they have failed to pay $280,000 in unpaid worldwide billing and ticketing fees.
