South African media are reporting that Comair Limited, operator of British Airways in South Africa and kulula.com, is planning a new route between Durban and London Gatwick for 2012. There are currently no direct non-stop flights between the two destinations.
Comair is yet to decide which of its two brands, British Airways (operated by Comair) or kulula.com, will be used to operate the flights.
IOL Travel is quoting Comair joint CEO Gidon Novick as saying that "There is now a huge amount of work ahead of us to get all the regulatory approvals to start flights to London and our plans for Africa. This includes getting permission from British Airways to possibly use their brand in operations to Gatwick. There are other options, like using our kulula.com low-cost brand, but British Airways would be our first choice on that route".
