The South African Civil Aviation Authority has given Comair the permission to let passengers use their cell phones ( in "flight mode" or "airplane mode", no phone calls will be allowed) during flights but not during take off. Comair, operator of British Airways in South Africa and kulula.com, told the media that it would allow the use of mobile phones on its flights on a trial basis for the time being.
South Africa's flag carrier South African Airways has also applied to the country's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to lift the ban on cellphone use during flights. (via eyewitnessnews.co.za)
