Cape Town: Zeitz MOCAA offers free entry on Heritage Day 2018!

Africa's largest museum of contemporary African art, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa ("Zeitz MOCAA") in Cape Town, celebrates its one-year anniversary and offers free admission this upcoming Heritage Day on 24 September 2018! Free tickets will be available at the door and normal opening hours will apply (10:00 - 18:00; last entry at 17:30).



The Zeitz MOCAA, located in the V&A Waterfront, was recently named of one of Time Magazine's "World's Greatest Places". The museum building was constructed from the conversion of the 57m tall historic Grain Silo. The 9,500m² complex consists of nine floors with 6 000 m² dedicated to gallery spaces and 3 500 m² to site specific exhibition spaces. The Zeitz MOCAA was opened in September 2017

Cape Town: Zeitz MOCAA to increase ticket prices!

Africa's largest museum of contemporary African art, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa ("Zeitz MOCAA") in Cape Town, is set to increase ticket prices. Effective 01 September 2018, the new admission prices will be the following:

• Single day admission (for adults) = R190
• Annual (general) Membership = R270
• Pensioners discounted annual membership = R195
• Children under the age of 18 will still enjoy free admission all year round, and #AfricaWednesday remains free for African citizens every Wednesday, between 10:00 and 13:00

According to South Africa Tourism's 2017 Annual Tourism Report, the top five of South Africa's Top 20 most-visited attractions or landmarks are located in and around Cape Town. The V&A Waterfront was the country's most-visited attraction or landmark with 1 162 000 tourists in 2017, followed by Cape Town's Central City with 1 080 000 tourists, Cape Point on the Cape Peninsula with 943 000 tourists, Table Mountain Cableway with 799 000 tourists and the suburb of Camp's Bay with 779 000 tourists.

Two Oceans Aquarium (Cape Town): Extended opening hours during the festive season!

Cape Town's famous Two Oceans Aquarium will extend its opening hours and will be open from 09:00 until 19:00 every day from 20 December 2017 to 07 January 2018, except for 25 December 2017 when it will close at 18:00. 

Animal feeding times at the Two Ocean Aquarium:

• I&J Ocean Exhibit: Daily at 12:00 and 14:00
• Penguin Exhibit: African penguins daily at 11:30 and 14:30
• Predator Exhibit: Sundays at 15:00

The Two Oceans Aquarium is located on Dock Road at Cape Town's V&A Waterfront. Tickets are R165 per adult and R120 - R80 per child (free entrance for kids under 4 years of age).

According to South Africa Tourism's 2016 Annual Tourism Report, the top three most-visited attractions or landmarks in South Africa are located in Cape Town. The V&A Waterfront was South Africa's most-visited attraction or landmark with 1 101 000 visitors (tourists) in 2016, followed by Cape Town's Central City, the most-visited tourist attraction of 2015, with 1 088 000 visitors and Cape Point with 862 000 visitors.

Cape Town: Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) will open in 2017!

udpate (14 Sept 2017): The official ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Friday, 22 September 2017 at 11h00.

The largest art museum to be built in Africa in more than 100 years, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) in Cape Town, will open in September 2017. The museum, a partnership between the V&A Waterfront and Jochen Zeitz, is the first major museum in Africa dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. When completed, the Zeitz MOCAA will have nine floors, with 6 000 m² dedicated to gallery spaces and 3 500 m² to site specific exhibition spaces.



During the grand opening weekend (22-25 September 2017), no entrance fee will be charged. The actual entrance fee to the Zeitz MOCAA is still beeing finalised (it will R180/adult), but it is already certain that visitors under the age of 18 will enter free all year round (confirmed) and that South Africans and visitors from the African continent will get free entry on Wednesday mornings (confirmed). During the "Late Night Fridays", which will be held at least once a month, entry will be half price for all. ("First Fridays": Half price admission between 16:00 – 21:00 every first Friday of the month.) The opening times will be daily from 10:00 to 18:00 every day except Tuesdays. The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) is located in the historic Grain Silos at Cape Town's famous V&A Waterfront.

South Africa's first museum of contemporary African art to open in Cape Town

The V&A Waterfront and Jochen Zeitz, a German art collecter and entrepreneur, yesterday announced a unique partnership to create South Africa's first museum of contemporary African art at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The museum, which will be located in the historic Grain Silos at the waterfront, will be named the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) after the Zeitz Collection, which will form the museum's founding collection.
Zeitz MOCAA will comprise over 9,500m² and will be spread over nine floors. It will focus on collecting, preserving, researching and exhibiting cutting-edge contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. Through an entire floor dedicated to education, the museum will develop a new art-loving, museum-going audience. The architect for the Zeitz MOCAA will be announced in February 2014, and it is expected to open its doors to visitors at the end of 2016. The inaugural exhibition, which opens at the Zeitz MOCAA Pavilion on 23 November 2013, will present the work of Swazi artist Nandipha Mntambo.

The Cape Town Diamond Museum is now open to visit

Cape Town's latest attraction is the recently opened "Cape Town Diamond Museum". Situated in the upgraded Clock Tower precinct at the V&A Waterfront, the museum is telling its visitors the story of South Africa’s diamond trade. Also on dispaly are the most famous South African diamonds, such as the 3,106 carat Cullinan rough diamond discovered in 1905, showcases specimens of Kimberlite rock dating billions of years old as well as life-size replicas of South Africa's famous diamonds that have adorned royalty, the rich and the famous.



The "Cape Town Diamond Museum" is open 09:00 - 21:00, 7 days/week. It can be found on 1st Floor of "The Clock Tower" adjacent to Robben Island Gateway at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

The "Wheel of Excellence" returns to Cape Town

The "Wheel of Excellence", which was dismantled and sold earlier in 2011, returned to Cape Town's V&A Waterfront and will get reopened to the public from 10 September 2011 to 30 April 2012.



A ride on the "Wheel of Excellence" will cost R220 per family of six, or R80 for adults and R40 for kids. The opening times will be Tuesday - Thursday (11h00 - 19h00) and Friday - Sunday (10h00 - 20h00). the Wheel will be closed on Mondays.
The "Wheel of Excellence" has 36 fully-enclosed cabins, including two wheel chair friendly and accessible cabins. A ride on the Wheel usually takes 12-15mins long (4 rounds).

Operators, shops, restaurants open during V&A Clock Tower redevelopment

update (08 Sept 2011): The Silo 1 open car park located at the Clock Tower Precinct has been closed. Pls use parking at Clock Tower Shopping Centre, Portswood, Ulundi, Granger Bay, Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre and Breakwater Parking Garage.
Pls also note that the bus drop off opposite the I&J Building is closed since 07 September 2011, and that from today (08 Sept 2011) tour buses will need to drop off passengers inside the parking area.

The Clock Tower Precinct at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town is currently undergoing a redevelopment. The structure of  the existing Clock Tower building will be retained to a large extent. Internal space will be remodelled to create a total of  5 465m² of office space and 2 352m² of restaurant and retail space.

The revamping strategy will see the precinct evolve into a vibrant hub of activity, fusing heritage, shopping, restaurants, arts, culture and business in a spectacular harbour environment.
Specific tourism attractions, stores and venues will remain open for business as usual during the shut-down period from early May until August, including:

• Nelson Mandela Gateway and Robben Island Museum
• The Chavonnes Cannon Battery Museum
• Shimansky Jewellers
• Atlantic Imbizo
• Paulaner Bräuhaus
• Emily's Snack Bar
• Diamonds of Africa (temporary office)

During this stage of the development, all roads, access and drop-off points will also be operational as usual.

Cape Town: Wheel of Excellences moves to new location

One of Cape Town latest tourist highlights, the Wheel of Excellence, is set to move from its current site near the entrance to the V&A Waterfront to the Market Square, the heart of the precinct.



The breakdown of the Wheel already started on Monday (15 Nov) and will last a total of three weeks. It will officially open to the public in its exciting new location on 03 Dec. 2010. Ticket prices are R80 for adults, R50 for children aged 4-12 and free for under-4s. The Wheel of Excellence will remain in Cape Town until the end of February 2011.
