"Jozi Days" - An independent skateboarding film!
"Jozi Days" is an independent skateboarding film by Jono Kyriakou, a Cape Town-based photographer and cinematographer. The film, which features debut parts from T-Kay Modise, Taylor Sturgess and Trae Rice, seeks to paint a picture of the fluorescing skate scene in Johannesburg and gives us travellers the great opportunity to experience the city from a different "skateboarding" perspective! Rad! Kudos Jono, T-Kay, Taylor and Trae!

When Patrick Wallner was named "best filmmaker 2014" by the European skateboard community, he got the offer from Redbull to travel anywhere he wanted in the world and make a movie there. He chose Madagascar. Video: Skateboarding in Maputo, Mozambique
Our collection of skate videos from East/Southern Africa is growing: we just stumbled upon a video about skateboarders in Maputo in Mozambique. The video, named Cena Viva, o retrato do skate em Moçambique (Cena Vica, the reality of skateboarding in Mozambique), highlights how limited the options are and how difficult it acutally is to skate on a board in and through Maputo. The video features the dudes of Maputo Skate, an organisation of skaters from Mozambique, whom you can find on Facebook as well as on Twitter. If you are a skateboarder and you are planning to visit Mozambique's capital, drop them a line, get in contact and hook up. Enjoy! Kudos Rodrigo Facundes for the video!

Video: Skateboarding in Kampala, Uganda
update (13 Jan 2014): The guys from the Uganda Skateboard Union have uploaded a new video abou skateboarding in Kampala. Kudos & enjoy!
We featured a couple of skateboarding videos in the blog over the last year, but, except for one video of the adidas South Africa skateboard team in Mozambique's capital Maputo, all films were about skatebording in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg. Knowing that there are skaters all over Africa, we searched the web and found this great video of the Uganda Skateboarding Union and their "Park Days" at the Kitintale Skatepark in Kampala, the first ever skateboard ramp in Uganda. Enjoy & kudos Peter, Douglas, John, Nico, Ken, Trevor, Morris, Gilbert, Titi & David and all others!
btw - checkout the Uganda Skateboard Union’s blog and Facebook page and keep up on their work and donate to the cause.

Video: Longboarding in Cape Town
Downhill pro skateboarder Matt Ardene, a local from Cape Town, filmed this great short film for Fibretec Skateboards. The 04:20 minutes film is telling quite a simple story: one person chases the fleeting feeling of perfection that lifts him from the daily grind up to a quiet place in the clouds. Enjoy! Kudos Matt!

Skateboarding film: A roadtrip to Maputo, Mozambique
Probably even better than the Cape Town at night video by adi three leaf is the 6 min video by Adriaan Louw and Sam Clark (also uploaded by adi three leaf) about a trip of the adidas South Africa skateboard team to Mozambique's capital Maputo. The film shows Maputo from the skater's perspective, which is creating a completely different portrait of the city than usual. Kudos Adriaan Louw and Sam Clark, as well as skaters Pieter Retief, Jansen van Staden and Khulu Dlamini!

A great city portrait, but not a usual one! It shows the City of Johannesburg from a skater's perspective. Kudos to the local skateboarding community as well as to Reporobait, a South African independent online resource for skateboarding related activities, for sharing the video!

Downhill skateboarding in South Africa - "Hot Heels 2011" (video)
If you like adrenalin rushs, speed and a good doze of crazyness you'll love this video. The annual dowhill skateboarding event "Hot Heels Africa" took place on 09-11 Dec 2011 on the tight two lane Buffelstal access road between Rooi Els and Pringle Bay in the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, located approx. 60 km east of Cape Town. The course along the Buffelstal access road is about 1,9km long and the riders can reach a top spead of around 80km/h.
The event has been running since December 2003, so I reckon they will race down the Kogelberg road in 2012 again. Watch the following video and mark the date in your calendars - it does defo look like big fun!
