Rugby World Cup final 2007 @ Tekweni Backpackers, Durban

Not much to say - some (qualitywise) not too good, but good enough video footage of the party at Tekweni Backpackers in Durban as the Springboks won the Rugby World Cup 2007 final against England. What a blast, what a party! If you are in South Africa during the Rugby World Cup 2011 (09 Sept - 23 Oct 2011), make sure that you watch at least one match with those Durbanites at Tekweni!

Botswana: Francistown airport completed after 3 years of construction

The reconstruction and expansion of the Francistown Airport (IATA: FRW) in Botswana has finally been (almost) completed, so that the airport is now ready to operate.
Although the contractors will be around for at least the next 12 month, Botswana's Minister of Transport and Communications, Frank Ramsden, is very optimistic that the airport will have a smooth take-off. The construction work in Francistown started in July 2008 and was planned to be finised in time for the 2010 World Cup in neighbouring South Africa. Due to several reasons it was completed only last month.

The reconstruction and expansion of the airport included two new runways as well as the renovations of the current ones (approved to land a Boeing 737 or an aircraft of equivalent class), a new terminal building, which has been designed for the traffic forecast up to 2025, openings for car rentals, a restaurant, shops and a bank. The approved project cost was P562 million.

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) increased fees for some National Parks

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), the custodian of Kenya's national parks, has again increased the daily (foreign) visitor fee for the so-called "premium parks" Amboseli and Lake Nakuru to US$80/person as a flat rate charged throughout the year with immediate effect.
Foreign visitors used to pay US$60 during low season at the premium parks and US$75  during the peak seasons (January to March, July to October).
According to Kenya's Forestry and Wildlife minister Noah Wekesa, the increase had to be done to meet KWS' conservation obligations, to boost the conservation efforts and reduce the service's dependence on the government.

Beside the "premium parks" Amboseli and Lake Nakuru, the tariffs for the so-called "wilderness parks", namely Tsavo East, Tsavo West & Meru, also got increased. All other 47 parks managed by KWS are not affected. Kenyans will continue paying Sh500 at premium parks and Sh300 in all others.
