Fastjet Zimbabwe to launch direct flights between Bulawayo and Victoria Falls!

Low-cost carrier Fastjet Zimbabwe has announced the launch of a new domestic route in Zimbabwe connecting Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. Starting 08 August 2025, flights will operate four times weekly between Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) in Bulawayo and Victoria Falls International Airport (VFA) in Victoria Falls.
The new service will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, utilizing Fastjet’s comfortable and reliable Embraer aircraft.

• Flight FN8111: Departs Bulawayo at 13:25, arrives in Victoria Falls at 14:20
• Flight FN8112: Departs Victoria Falls at 14:50, arrives in Bulawayo at 15:45

With the introduction of this route, Fastjet Zimbabwe now connects all three major cities in Zimbabwe - Harare, Bulawayo, and Victoria Falls - by air. The airline already operates regular domestic services between Harare & Victoria Falls and Harare and Bulawayo.
Fastjet’s network also includes international flights from Harare, Bulawayo, and Victoria Falls to Johannesburg in South Africa, from Victoria Falls to Mbombela (Nelspruit) in South Africa, and between Harare and Lusaka in Zambia.
This new Bulawayo <> Victoria Falls connection is expected to boost both domestic tourism and business travel, offering greater convenience for travelers exploring Zimbabwe's top destinations.

South Africa: Airlink to boost flights to Hoedspruit and Bulawayo!

South African regional airline Airlink is set to increase flight frequencies to Hoedspruit Airport (HDS) in Hoedspruit in South Africa's Limpopo Province and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
Starting 30 March 2025, Airlink will introduce a triple-daily service between OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg and Hoedspruit, while flights between Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town and Hoedspruit will increase to twice daily. Currently, there are two daily flights from Johannesburg and one from Cape Town.
From 31 March 2025, Airlink will also add six more weekly return flights between Johannesburg and Bulawayo, increasing the current 13 return flights per week on the route.

Zimbabwe: Fastjet increases flights between Bulawayo <> Johannesburg!

Zimbabwean low-cost airline Fastjet is set to increase flights between Bulawayo and Johannesburg in South Africa. Starting on 01 November 2024, the airline will introduce additional midday return flights to OR Tambo International Airpot (JNB) in Johannesburg. The new rotations will be available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

• Johannesburg 11:10 > 12:30 Bulawayo on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
• Bulawayo 13:00 > 14:20 Johannesburg on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays

Fastjet is currently operating daily evening flights between Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) in Bulawayo and Johannesburg as well morning flights during the week only.

Zimbabwe: Fastjet to increase flights between Bulawayo <> Johannesburg!

Low-cost carrier Fastjet Zimbabwe has announced the introduction of additional flight frequencies from Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg, South Africa. Effective 30 October 2023, flights from Bulawayo to Johannesburg will increase from a daily service to 12 weekly flights with the re-introduction of a morning service. Every weekday, there will be a 06:50 departure from Johannesburg, arriving at Bulawayo at 08:10. Departures from Bulawayo will be at 08:50, arriving into Johannesburg at 10:10. These flights are in addition to the daily evening return rotation between Bulawayo and Johannesburg.

Ethiopian Airlines introduces flights to a third destination city in Zimbabwe!

The flag carrier of Ethiopia, Ethiopian Airlines, has announced on twitter that it is set to launch flights to third destination city in Zimbabwe next to Harare and Victoria Falls. Effective 30 October 2022, the airline will introduce scheduled flights between Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) in Addis Ababa and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) in Bulawayo.
Bulawayo, Zimbabwe's second largest city, and the largest city in the country's Matabeleland is known as the gateway to Matobo National Park as well as Hwange National Park.

Air Zimbabwe resumes domestic and regional flights!

Zimbabwe's flag carrier, Air Zimbabwe, has announced the resumption of additonal domestic and regional flights. Effective 28 March 2021, the airline will resume its four weekly service between Harare > Bulawayo > Victoria Falls > Harare as well as flights between Harare and Johannesburg. The return flights to Johannesburg will be operated twice daily from Monday to Friday. Air Zimbabwe's service between Harare and Dar es Salaam will continue as per current schedule on Tuedays and Saturdays. The airline will operate all flights on bord an Embraer ERJ145 and a Boeing 737-200.

Low-cost carrier Fastjet (Zimbabwe) has announced the resumption of flights between Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) in Bulawayo and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg in South Africa. Effectiv 14 October 2020, the airline will operate three weekly return flights on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays to Johannesburg. The resumption of flights on this route will complement Fastjet's international network, with operations between Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport (HRE) in Harare and Johannesburg already flying daily since 01 October 2020.

Fastjet (Zimbabwe) postpones flights between Victoria Falls and Kruger National Park!

Low-cost carrier Fastjet (Zimbabwe) has announced that it will postpone the launch scheduled operations between Victoria Falls International Airport (VFA) in Victoria Falls and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (MQP) in Nelspruit, South Africa, until next year. The airline initially planed to commence flights to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (MQP), which is located about 30km from Nelspruit and about 40hm from Kruger National Park's Numbi Gate, on 06 July 2020. Fastjet (Zimbawbe) also made public that it will postpone domestic flights between Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) in Bulawayo and Victoria Falls, also intitially planed to commence on 06 July 2020, until further notice. The airline names the decline in demand and the likelihood of the coronavirus pandemic resurging and persisting well into 2021 as the main reasons for the change of plans. Fastjet (Zimbabwe) to connect Victoria Falls with Kruger National Park! [update]

update (23 April 2020): Fastjet (Zimbabwe) postpones flights between Victoria Falls <> Kruger Mpumalanga until 2021 and between Bulawayo <> Victoria Falls until further notice.

Low-cost carrier Fastjet (Zimbabwe) has announced the introduction of a new regional route and a new domestic route. Effective 06 July 2020, the airline will initially operate four weekly direct flights between Victoria Falls International Airport (VFA) in Victoria Falls and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (MQP)* in Nelspruit, South Africa, as well as initially three weekly direct service between Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) in Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. This will increase Fastjet's (Zimbabwe) flight frequency to a total 138 flights per week. (via atcnews.org)

SA Express to introduce flights between Johannesburg <> Bulawayo!

State-owned South African carrier, SA Express, is set to commence flights between OR Tambo International Aiport (JNB) in Johannesburg and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (GBE) in Bulawayo in Zimbabwe. Effective 18 November 2019, the airline will operate daily return flights to Bulawayo from Monday to Saturday, with a double daily frequency on Fridays. SA Express announced early this month it had obtained approvals from the International Air Services Council (IASC) to offer services to Botswana, Zimbabwe and Angola.

South Africa: SA Express to increase its regional flights!

State-owned South African carrier, SA Express, has got the approval by the International Air Services Council (IASC) to offer services to Botswana, Zimbabwe and Angola. In the near future, the airline will add seven new return flights between Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town and Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (GBE) in Gaborone in Botswana and will introduce seven return flights between OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (GBE) in Bulawayo in Zimbabwe as well as three return flights between Johannesburg and Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport (LAD) in Luanda in Angola.

Bulawayo: Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) to get an upgrade!

According to the acting director general of the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ), Mrs Margaret Mantiziba, the second phase of the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) expansion project is set to commence this year. The upgrade of the airport in Bulawayo will include a new air traffic control tower and related equipment as well as a new fire station with new fire fighting equipment. The construction of the new air traffic control tower is expected to start this year, while the entire projet is set to be completed within the next two years at at cost of US$13 million.
Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) was established in 1959 as Bulawayo Airport. In 2013 a new passenger terminal building was commissioned (first phase of the expansion project).

Zimbabwe: Fastjet increased flights between Harare <> Bulawayo!

Fastjet (Zimbabwe) has increased the number of flights between Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport (HRE) in Harare and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) in Bulawayo to cope with with increasing demand. Since 10 January 2019, the airline operates two daily flights instead of one daily flight on the route. The new schedule includes a morning and evening departure, leaving Harare at 07:00 and again at 19:15, with return flights departing Bulawayo at 8:20 and 20:35.

Pan-African low cost-carrier Fastjet will is set to launch daily flights between Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport (HRE) in Harare and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) in Bulawayo from 20 July 2018. Ticket sales are already open for booking. Bulawayo is the second largest city in Zimbabwe and the nearest large city to Hwange National Park, Matobo National Park and Victoria Falls.

Botswana: BR Express now stops at eight stations between Lobatse <> Francistown!

Botswana Railways (BR) not only extended its passenger train service (BR Express) to Bulawayo, it also increased the stopping places of the BR Express from six to eight with effect from 15 December 2017.  The two additional stops are Pilane and Tonota Halt. The north bound train will arrive in Pilane at 22:00 and depart at 22:02. At Tonota Halt, the north bound passenger train will arrive at 05:22 and depart at 05:24. The south bound train will arrive at Tonota Halt at 21:53 and depart at 21:56. This train will arrive at Pilane at 05:06 and depart at 0508.
Botswana Railways also changed the departure time for the passenger train at Lobatse from 18:00 to 18:45, effective 15 December 2017.

This service currently connects Lobatse with Francistown via Gaborone, Pilane (new) Mahalapye, Palapye, Serule and Tonota Halt (new).

Botswana: Botswana Railways to launch a passenger train service between Francistown <> Bulawayo!

Botswana Railways (BR) just announced that with effect from 20 December 2017 its passenger train service, the BR Express, will connect Francistown in Botswana with Bulawayo in Zimbabwe. The BR Express will depart Francistown at 07:00 and arrive in Bulawayo at 12:30. Upon return, the train will depart Bulawayo at 14:15 and arrive in Francistown at 19:45. Botswana Railways stopped services to Zimbabwe in the early 2000s.

Airlink to introduce second flight between Johannesburg <> Bulawayo!

South African carrier Airlink is set to add a second flight between OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, on 05 September 2016. The new morning flight will depart Johannesburg from Monday to Friday at 06:25 and will arrive in Bulawayo at 07:45. The return flight will depart Bulawayo at 08:05 and will arrive in Johannesburg at 09:30.
Airlink will also increase its capacity over the Christmas season 2016/17 (12 Dec 2016 - 15 January 2017) with an additional afternoon flight that will operate every day except Saturdays. The afternoon flight will depart Johannesburg at 15:00 and will arrive in Bulawayo at 16:20, while the return flight will depart Bulawayo at 16:40 and will arrive in Johannesburg at 18:05.

fastjet is set to launch domestic flights in Zimbabwe!

According to the online edition of Zimbabwean newspaper "The Herald", fastjet (Zimbabwe) is set to introduce domestic flights between Harare and Bulawayo and between Harare and Victoria Falls.
Zimbabwe's Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development already granted the airline an Air Service Permit (ASP) in March 2015, but fastjet (Zimbabwe) still has to submit certain documents to the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) to complete the application process for an Air Operator's Certificate (AOC). The AOC will give the airline the formal approval to commence flights in Zimbabwe.
fastjet (Zimbabwe) also plans to launch international routes ex Harare to Johannesburg and Cape Town (South Africa), as well as to Nairobi (Kenya) and Lusaka (Zambia).

FlyAfrica set to launch flights Johannesburg <> Bulawayo!

update (12 Nov 2014): FlyAfrica just confirmed that it will launch daily flights between Bulawayo (BUQ) and Johannesburg (JNB) on 02 March 2015.

According to well-informed Zimbabwean aviation specialist Mlandeli Ndlela (Harare Airport Blog), FlyAfrica is set to launch a direct service between Johannesburg (JNB) and Bulawayo (BUQ) on 01 March 2015. We'll keep you posted!
