Fastjet Mozambique set to launch Beira hub and domestic flights

Fastjet Mozambique remains on course to launch domestic flights in Mozambique during the second half of 2026. While regulatory approval has been secured and Beira confirmed as the airline's operational base, the carrier has yet to announce its inaugural flight date, route network or booking opening date.

Low-cost carrier Fastjet is moving closer to launching domestic flights in Mozambique, with Solenta Aviation Mozambique preparing operations from Beira Airport (BEW) in Beira in the second half of 2026.

The new airline, Fastjet Mozambique, will begin with three 50-seat regional jets, targeting affordable domestic travel and positioning Beira as a central aviation hub in Mozambique. The move introduces long-awaited competition to LAM Mozambique Airlines, which could mean better connectivity and lower fares for travellers.

Likely launch routes

Although schedules are not yet published, the expected starter network from Beira includes:

• Maputo – main trunk route (likely multiple daily flights)
• Nampula – key north–centre connection
• Tete – mining and business demand
• Pemba – gas projects and northern tourism
• Quelimane – regional connectivity
• Vilanculos – gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago

Typical startup frequencies are expected to range from daily flights on major routes to 3–5 weekly services on thinner sectors.

Future regional expansion

Once domestic services stabilise, regional routes to Johannesburg, Harare, Dar es Salaam and Lusaka are highly likely.

After months of regulatory uncertainty, Solenta Aviation Mozambique has secured approval to launch scheduled domestic flights in Mozambique under the Fastjet Mozambique brand, marking a significant development for the country's aviation and tourism sectors.

Mozambique’s civil aviation regulator, the Instituto de Aviação Civil de Moçambique (IACM), has issued the required scheduled air services licence, clearing the final hurdle for the airline’s return. This follows earlier confirmation that Solenta already held a valid Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and met all technical, safety, and staffing requirements.

While launch dates and flight schedules have yet to be announced, Fastjet Mozambique is expected to operate key domestic routes including Maputo–Beira, Maputo–Nampula, Maputo–Tete, and Maputo–Quelimane, using Embraer ERJ-145 regional jets.

The airline’s return is expected to introduce greater competition to Mozambique’s domestic aviation market, currently dominated by LAM – Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique, with potential benefits for travellers including improved connectivity, reliability, and fare choice.

FlyNamibia and Fastjet partner to connect Windhoek and Harare via Victoria Falls!

Namibian regional airline FlyNamibia has announced a new partnership with Fastjet, a leading Southern African carrier, to offer passengers seamless travel between Windhoek (Namibia) and Harare (Zimbabwe) via Victoria Falls. The new connection officially launched on 01 November 2025.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards strengthening regional air connectivity in Southern Africa, enhancing both business and tourism travel between Namibia and Zimbabwe. It also reinforces Victoria Falls' growing role as a strategic aviation hub.

Under the agreement, FlyNamibia’s Windhoek–Victoria Falls service will be fully synchronized with Fastjet’s Victoria Falls–Harare flights, allowing travellers to enjoy smooth, same-day connections between the two capital cities. The coordinated schedule is designed to minimize layovers and simplify travel planning for both business and leisure passengers.

The new partnership complements FlyNamibia’s expanding route network, which currently includes domestic destinations such as Ondangwa, Katima Mulilo, and Lüderitz, as well as regional routes to Maun (Botswana) and Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe).

Looking ahead, FlyNamibia has also confirmed plans to increase its Victoria Falls service to six weekly flights from April 2026, providing greater flexibility and more travel options for regional and international visitors alike.

With this strategic alliance, FlyNamibia and Fastjet are paving the way for a more connected and accessible Southern Africa, supporting the region’s shared vision of growth through tourism and trade.

Fastjet Zimbabwe adds new early morning flight on Johannesburg <> Harare route!

Fastjet Zimbabwe has announced the launch of an additional early morning flight frequency on the busy Johannesburg (JNB) <> Harare (HRE) route. Starting 29 September 2025, the new service will operate daily except Saturdays, providing travellers with more flexibility and convenience when flying between South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The new frequency will be operated by Fastjet’s reliable Embraer ERJ145 aircraft and is already available for booking. This additional service is expected to support growing demand on the route, benefiting both business and leisure travellers.
The additional flight will depart OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg at 06:55 and arrive at RG Mugabe International Airport (HRE) in Harare at 08:40. The return leg leaves Harare at 19:00, landing in Johannesburg at 20:50. The service will operate daily except Saturdays.

Fastjet Mozambique still awaits licence as Government denies delays! [update #2]

update (15 October 2025): Although both the Mozambican government and Solenta Aviation Mozambique / Fastjet Mozambique confirm the process is active and technically complete, final governmental approval remains pending as of mid-October 2025, with operational launch plans still on hold.  

update (08 October 2025): As of early October 2025, Solenta Aviation Mozambique / Fastjet Mozambique is still awaiting its operating license. The Mozambican government says it's following normal process and nearing the end. Solenta/Fastjet Mozambique feels the delays are abnormal, and there are signs some plans may be scaled back or reallocated if the license doesn’t come through soon. Well keep you updated! 

The Government of Mozambique has rejected claims that it is deliberately blocking the licensing of Fastjet Mozambique, despite the airline waiting since May 2025 for final approval. According to industry specialists at ch-aviation and state news agency Agência de Informação de Moçambique (AIM), the certification process is technically moving forward but remains unfinished more than three months after initial clearances.
Government spokesman Inocêncio Impissa confirmed on 22 August 2025 that Solenta Aviation Mozambique - the locally owned airline set to operate Fastjet Mozambique under a franchise deal with the Fastjet Group - is still undergoing the phased Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) process. Authorities have already assessed the company’s financial strength, maintenance procedures, and staff qualifications, while the final step will determine if operations comply with Mozambique’s national aviation policies. No timeline for completion has been provided.

In May 2025, Solenta Aviation Mozambique’s business plan and AOC were approved by the Mozambican Civil Aviation Institute (IACM), which was seen as a breakthrough for the planned return of Fastjet-branded scheduled flights in Mozambique. Since then, however, the airline has been left waiting for the final green light, despite having already taken delivery of two Embraer E145 regional jets, hired crew and staff, secured supplier contracts, and fulfilled all regulatory and financial obligations.

The extended delay has raised concerns about Mozambique’s aviation licensing process and its impact on competition in the domestic market. Once approved, Fastjet Mozambique aims to operate domestic routes, offering travelers more choice and improving air connectivity across the country.

Fastjet Zimbabwe to launch direct flights between Bulawayo and Victoria Falls!

Low-cost carrier Fastjet Zimbabwe has announced the launch of a new domestic route in Zimbabwe connecting Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. Starting 08 August 2025, flights will operate four times weekly between Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) in Bulawayo and Victoria Falls International Airport (VFA) in Victoria Falls.
The new service will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, utilizing Fastjet’s comfortable and reliable Embraer aircraft.

• Flight FN8111: Departs Bulawayo at 13:25, arrives in Victoria Falls at 14:20
• Flight FN8112: Departs Victoria Falls at 14:50, arrives in Bulawayo at 15:45

With the introduction of this route, Fastjet Zimbabwe now connects all three major cities in Zimbabwe - Harare, Bulawayo, and Victoria Falls - by air. The airline already operates regular domestic services between Harare & Victoria Falls and Harare and Bulawayo.
Fastjet’s network also includes international flights from Harare, Bulawayo, and Victoria Falls to Johannesburg in South Africa, from Victoria Falls to Mbombela (Nelspruit) in South Africa, and between Harare and Lusaka in Zambia.
This new Bulawayo <> Victoria Falls connection is expected to boost both domestic tourism and business travel, offering greater convenience for travelers exploring Zimbabwe's top destinations.

Fastjet Mozambique: Solenta Aviation set to launch scheduled domestic flights! [update #3]

update (27 August 2025): Fastjet Mozambique and Solenta Aviation Mozambique remain in the pre-launch phase with pending regulatory clearance required for scheduled domestic flights, and no formal restart or booking date has yet been disclosed by either carrier or Mozambican authorities as of 27 August 2025. 

update (29 July 2025): While Fastjet Mozambique has the regulatory approval and operational setup to relaunch, its operations still remain on hold waiting for the scheduled operator’s licence from the Mozambican civil aviation authority. The only remaining stumbling block appears to be administrative and tied to ongoing industry reforms. Once the licence is issued, Fastjet domestic services in Mozambique are expected to start promptly. 

update (23 July 2025): Solenta Aviation Mozambique is ready and awaiting only the final government license to launch scheduled domestic flights under the fastjet brand. The aviation sector in Mozambique is on the cusp of significant change, with fastjet’s return expected to offer more choice and competitive pricing for travellers. Official start dates and route schedules are anticipated as soon as the license is formally issued! 

Solenta Aviation Mozambique, a Mozambican-owned airline, is preparing to launch scheduled passenger flights under the fastjet brand in Mozambique. The airline has confirmed that all regulatory milestones required to begin operations have been successfully achieved.
In May 2025, both the business plan and Air Operator Certificate (AOC) were approved by the Mozambican Civil Aviation Institute (IACM), marking a critical step toward reintroducing fastjet-branded scheduled services in Mozambique. The airline has since taken delivery of its aircraft, completed crew and staff recruitment, finalized contracts with suppliers, and fulfilled all necessary regulatory and financial requirements.
The scheduled air service license is now pending final issuance, which is expected shortly.

Survey: FlySafair named best low-cost airline in Africa 2025!

South African regional carrier FlySafair has been awarded the title of Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa at the prestigious Skytrax World Airline Awards 2025. The airline was awarded first place in this competitive category, reflecting its performance in the region's low-cost travel sector.
Lift, another South African domestic airline and last year’s winner, secured the position of second-best low-cost airline in Africa in 2025. Zimbabwe-based Fastjet, which operates domestic flights in Zimbabwe and regional flights across southern Africa, claimed the third spot.
In addition, South African airline Airlink was recognized as the Cleanest Airline in Africa for 2025, reflecting its high standards in aircraft cleanliness and onboard hygiene.
The 2025 Skytrax World Airline Awards were based on the results of a global passenger satisfaction survey conducted between September 2024 and May 2025. More than 100 nationalities participated, with responses carefully screened to remove duplicate or ineligible entries. Over 325 airlines were included in the final results, making the Skytrax Awards one of the most comprehensive airline rankings in the industry.

Zimbabwe: Fastjet to temporarily increase flights between Victoria Falls <> Mbombela!

Zimbabwean low-cost airline, Fastjet, is set to increase the number of flights between Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and Kruger National Park in South Africa. The airline's spokesperson Mr Nunurai Ndawana announced during a media event in Victoria Falls that Fastjet will temporarily increase the number of flights between Victoria Falls International Airport (VFA) in Victoria Falls and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (MQP) in Mbombela (formerly Nelspruit) to a daily service from early July 2024 to the end of September 2024.

Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (MQP) is located about 30km north east of Mbombela (formerly Nelspruit) in Mpumalanga. The airport is known as the major gateway for tourists traveling (by air) to Kruger National Park and neighbouring private game lodges as well as spectacular vistas such as God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck, the Three Rondavels and several waterfalls.

Zimbabwe: Fastjet has suspeneded its only service to Botswana!

Zimbabwe’s low-cost airline, Fastjet, has suspended its only service to Botswana. The airline stopped operating flights betweem Victoria Falls International Airport (VFA) in Victoria Falls and Maun International Airport (MUB) in Maun, the tourism capital of Botswana. According to Fastjet, the route has proven not to have sustainable growth was therefor terminated. However, charter and ad hoc flights to Maun will be operated in the peak season. Zimbabwe: Fastjet to increase flights between Bulawayo <> Johannesburg!

Low-cost carrier Fastjet Zimbabwe has announced the introduction of additional flight frequencies from Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg, South Africa. Effective 30 October 2023, flights from Bulawayo to Johannesburg will increase from a daily service to 12 weekly flights with the re-introduction of a morning service. Every weekday, there will be a 06:50 departure from Johannesburg, arriving at Bulawayo at 08:10. Departures from Bulawayo will be at 08:50, arriving into Johannesburg at 10:10. Low-cost carrier Fastjet (Zimbabwe) is planning to launch flights to two new domestic destinations in Zimbabwe. Commencing late March 2023, the airine is set to introduce their new services from RG Mugabe International Airport (HRE) in Harare and Victoria Falls International Airport (VFA) in Victoria Falls to Kariba Airport (KAB) in Kariba and Hwange National Park Airport (HWN) that serves the Hwange National Park. These planned additional routes to the Fastjet’s domestic network will offer seamless connections for travellers from Harare and Victoria Falls to the tourism destinations of Kariba and Hwange National Park, with scheduled flight connections using an Embraer E120, 30-seater turboprop aircraft.

Vivian Ruwuya, Fastjet (Zimbabwe) Chief Commercial Office, further announced that the new flights to Kariba and Hwange National Park will be supported with onward connections on Mack Air / South West Aviation into the Hwange National Park, the lodges of the Kariba eastern basin and the camps and operations in Mana Pools and the lower Zambezi. Mack Air with South West Aviation will be developing a new hub at Kariba, along with their existing hubs in Victoria Falls and Harare to support these seamless connections to and from Fastjet’s services. Fastjets new domestic flights to Kariba and Hwange National Park will be available for booking in the coming days.
