Air Tanzania to launch Dar es Salaam – Victoria Falls – Cape Town route in December 2025!

Air Tanzania is set to expand its regional network with a brand-new route connecting Dar es Salaam, Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe), and Cape Town from 11 December 2025. The airline will operate two weekly flights on Thursdays and Sundays, marking Air Tanzania’s first-ever entry into the Cape Town market.

Only the south-bound service from Dar es Salaam to Cape Town will include a stopover in Victoria Falls. The north-bound return flight will operate nonstop, offering travellers a direct connection from Cape Town to Dar es Salaam.

The new route will be served by the Airbus A220-300, a modern, fuel-efficient aircraft already used across Air Tanzania’s regional network.

• Dar es Salaam 11:50 – 13:50 Victoria Falls – 14:50 – 17:45 Cape Town – 18:55

Air Tanzania launches new Zanzibar <> Johannesburg service via Dar es Salaam!

Air Tanzania, the national carrier of Tanzania, is expanding its regional network with a new flight service connecting Zanzibar and Johannesburg. Starting 10 June 2025, the airline will operate twice-weekly flights between Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) in Zanzibar and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg, South Africa. The new route will operate on a triangular schedule, with a stopover at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam on the return leg.
Flights will operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Departures from Dar es Salaam are scheduled for 10:45 AM, with arrival in Johannesburg at 13:15. The return journey departs Johannesburg at 14:15, arriving in Zanzibar at 18:45. The final leg of the journey leaves Zanzibar at 19:35, arriving back in Dar es Salaam at 20:05.
This new regional service by Air Tanzania will enhance connectivity between Tanzania's idyllic island of Zanzibar and the vibrant city of Johannesburg, making travel more convenient for both business and leisure travellers.

Tanzania: Air Tanzania introduces flights to Johannesburg!

Air Tanzania, the flag carrier airline of Tanzania, has announced the introduction of scheduled flights to Johannesburg in South Africa. The airline will operate five weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg. The route will be operated with a Boeing 737 aircraft, offering a two-class cabin configuration. Business Class will offer 16 seats while Economy Class will have 165 seats. Air Tanzania's new service to Johannesburg will commence on 30 November 2024.

Zambia: Proflight Zambia & Air Tanzania have signed an interline ticketing agreement!

Zambian scheduled airline Proflight Zambia and the the flag carrier airline of Tanzania, Air Tanzania, have signed an interline ticketing agreement. Under the agreement, a streamlined ticketing process will enable travellers to effortlessly book itineraries across both airlines and to enjoy the benefits and services of the two airlines in a single ticketed journey. The interline agreement between Proflight Zambia (P0/659) and Air Tanzania (TC/197) came into effect on 18 December 2023, allowing Air Tanzania to ticket onto Proflight Zambia’s flights and vice versa.

Coronavirus pandemic: Tanzania has re-opened its airspace for international flights!

The Government of Tanzania has lifted the ban on international flights on 18 May 2020. Both non-scheduled and scheduled air services, such as commercial passenger flights, diplomatic flights, aircraft in emergency and operations related to humanitarian aid, medical and relief, are allowed to land in and depart from Tanzanian airports without any restrictons. According to the country's President John Magufuli, travellers are allowed to enter Tanzania without being quarantined as long as their body-temperature don't point to anything unusual. Tanzania closed its airspace on 11 April 2020 as a measure to curb the spread of the coronavirus. 
The President also directed Tanzania's state-owned flag carrier airline Air Tanzania to resume operations to countries that have opened their skies or those seeking the airline's services.

Air Tanzania indefinitely terminates flights to Johannesburg!

Following the temporary suspension of flights between Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg in September 2019, Tanzania's flag carrier, Air Tanzania, now has confirmed that it has terminated the service to South Africa indefinitely. Travellers who are in possession of valid tickets will get a full refund and will have to look for another airline to travel to South Africa. Air Tanzania launched the route on 28 June 2019, offering four weekly flights between Dar es Salaam and Johannesburg on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Air Tanzania has suspended flights to Johannesburg due to ongoing violence!

Tanzania's flag carrier, Air Tanzania, has suspended its service between Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg on 05 September 2019. According to Tanzania's Minister of Transport Isack Kamwelwe, the decision was made due to the "ongoing violence" in Johannesburg. This comes after a South African court on 04 September 2019 ordered the release of an Airbus A220-300 aircraft, owned by Air Tanzania, after it was impounded on 21 August 2019.

Effective 17 July 2019, the airline will operate three weekly return flights to Mumbai.Air Tanzania's Boeing B787 Dreamliner, configured with 22 seats in business class and 240 in economy class, will service both routes.

Flights will be operated on board a Bombardier Q400 aircraft.

update (19 July 2019): Air Tanzania has finally launched its first long haul destination on 17 July 2019 and now serves Mumbai in India three times a week!

Air Tanzania to launch flights to Moroni (Comoros)

According to aviation specialists ch-aviation.ch, Air Tanzania will soon launch its first international service. According to Air Tanzania's acting managing director, Milton Lazaro, the airline will resume services on 12 Oct 2012. Air Tanzania will operate a government owned 50-seater Bombadier Dash-8 Q300, as well as two leased Boeing 737-500 with capacities of 110 and 140 passengers.
