update (19 July 2019): Air Tanzania has finally launched its first long haul destination on 17 July 2019 and now serves Mumbai in India three times a week!
The flag carrier airline of Tanzania, Air Tanzania, is set to introduce its first cross-continent flight outside Africa in September 2018. According to the online edition of the Daily News, a government-owned newspaper from Tanzania, the airline is planning to operate three weekly flights between Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM) in Mumbai, India. Air Tanzania will commence the new service once the airline's brand new Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner arrives in Tanzania anytime from August 2018.
