Air Tanzania to launch flights to Entebbe & Bujumbura!

The flag carrier airline of Tanzania, Air Tanzania, is set to launch direct flights between Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam and Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Entebbe, Uganda, and Bujumbura International Airport (BJM) in Bujumbura, Burundi. Effective 26 August 2018, the airline will offer three weekly flights on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday between Dar es Salaam and Entebbe as well es between Dar es Salaam and Bujumbura. Flights will be operated on board a Bombardier Q400 aircraft.

Brussels Airlines: More flights to East Africa from October 2014

The flag carrier airline of Belgium, Brussels Airlines, has announced that it will increase its flights offers from its homebase at Brussels Airport (IATA: BRU) in Belgium to Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi. As from 26 October 2014, Nairobi will be flown five times weekly (two additional frequencies). The Rwandan capital Kigali and the Burundian capital Bujumbura each get an additional weekly flight frequency. Kigali will then be served five times weekly and Bujumbura three times.

Flydubai to launch flights to Uganda, Rwanda & Burundi

Dubai-based low-cost airline flydubai has announced the introduction of three new East African routes. The airline will launch flights to Bujumbura in Burundi, Entebbe in Uganda and Kigali in Rwanda in September 2014. The latest route additions will bring the total number of destinations in the carrier's network to 80, including nine destionations in Africa.

Entebbe, Uganda
flydubai will operate daily flights between Dubai and Entebbe starting from 27 September 2014.
Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays:
FZ621 is scheduled to depart Dubai International Terminal 2 at 16:10hrs local time, arriving into Entebbe International Airport at 20:30hrs local time.
FZ622 is scheduled to depart Entebbe International Airport on the following day at 01:30hrs local time, landing at Dubai International Terminal 2 at 08:05hrs local time.
Tuesdays and Fridays:
FZ623 is scheduled to depart Dubai International Terminal 2 at 12:20hrs local time, arriving into Entebbe International Airport at 16:40hrs local time.
FZ624 is scheduled to depart Entebbe International Airport at 22:10hrs local time, landing at Dubai International Terminal 2 at 04:35hrs local time.
Sundays:
FZ619 is scheduled to depart Dubai International Terminal 2 at 09:55hrs local time, arriving into Entebbe International Airport at 14:15hrs local time.

flydubai will operate two flights a week between Dubai and Bujumbura via Entebbe starting from 30 September 2014.
Tuesdays and Fridays:
FZ623 is scheduled to depart Dubai International Terminal 2 at 12:20hrs local time, arriving into Bujumbura International Airport at 17:55hrs local time with a one-hour stopover in Entebbe.
FZ624 is scheduled to depart Bujumbura International Airport at 18:55hrs local time, landing at Dubai International Terminal 2 at 04:35hrs local time with a one-hour stopover in Entebbe.

Kigali, Rwandavia Entebbe
flydubai will operate three flights a week between Dubai and Kigali via Entebbe starting from 27 September 2014.

Air Tanzania introduces new routes to Burundi and in Tanzania

The flag carrier of Tanzania, Air Tanzania, has launched a new services to Burundi as well as two new domestic routes. Effective 15 December 2013, the airline started operating schedulded flights on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays between Dar Es Salaam and Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi. At the same time Air Tanzania also introduced flights from Dar Es Salaam to Mbeya on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and daily operations to Mwanza in northwestern Tanzania.

Kenya Airways introduced new direct flights to Kigali (Rwanda) & Bujumbura (Burundi)

Kenya's flag carrier, Kenya Airways, has introduced new direct flights from its Nairobi hub to Kigali in Rwanda and Bujumbura in Burundi. The twice daily direct flights, in the mornings and evenings, to each of the two East African cities are in addition to the existing round flight from Nairobi, passing through Kigali and Bujumbura and back every day. Within East Africa, apart from the capitals of Rwanda and Burundi, Kenya Airways also flies to Dar Es Salaam, Kilimanjaro (Tanzania) and Entebbe (Uganda).

European airlines are adjusting their winter schedule to Southern & Eastern Africa

Germany's flag carrier, Lufthansa, has announced operational and frequency changes to its South Africa schedule for the duration of the European winter of 2012/2013. The airline will reduces the number of flights to Johannesburg between 08 January 2013 - 30 January 2013 from daily fligths to six flights per week. Due to the recently introduced night flight ban in Frankfurt, the airline will also move its seasonal connection to South Africa from Frankfurt to Munich.
British Airways, national airline of the United Kingdom, will also adjust its schedule during the European winter. The airline will switch its seasonal flight BA042 from Cape Town (South Africa) to London Heathrow from a departure time in the morning to a night time departure.
Brussels Airlines, the flag carrier airline of Belgium and a subsidiary of Lufthansa, has announced various operational and frequency changes to its East African network during the European Winter. From 01 October 2012, the airline will reduce the number of flights to Entebbe in Uganda from currently four weekly flights to three weekly flights, to Kigali in Rwanda from five weekly flights to three weekly flights and to Bujumbura in Burundi from three weekly connections to two. Brussels Airlines will also reduce the flights to Nairobi in Kenya from four weekly flights to three weekly flights. From 01 October 2012, the airline will operate one of the three weekly flights to Nairobi via Mombasa and the remaining two weekly flights via Bujumbura in Burundi.

Brussels Airlines increases frequencies to Nairobi (Kenya) & four other African destinations

Belgium's largest airline, Brussels Airlines, will increase its international flight frequencies to five African destinations. From April 2012 the airline will enhance travel possibilities and seat capacities to/from Nairobi (Kenya) and Bujumbura (Burundi) in East Africa and to/from Yaoundé, Douala (Cameroon) and Abidjan (Ivory Coast) in West Africa as well as to/from Kinshasa in the DR Congo.
Thanks to the timing of the flights, passengers will be able to connect seamlessly between these new flights and other Brussels Airlines' flights within Europe or to/from the United States.
As from April 2012, Brussels Airline will offer four weekly flights to Nairobi in Kenya and three weekly flights to Bujumbura in Burundi. Weekly frequencies to the capital of Cameroon, Yaoundé, will be increased from two to six, while Douala will be linked daily to Brussels Airport instead of the current 3 flights weekly. The airline will also increase its flight offer to Abidjan (Ivory Coast) to a daily service. Flights to Kinshasa will be operated non-stop from Brussels every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Direct non-stop flights from Kinshasa to Brussels will be offered six times a week.

South African Airways adds Kigali (Rwanda) & Bujumbura (Burundi) to its network

update (24 Jan 2012): South African Airways is now operating Johannesburg – Bujumbura – Kigali instead of Johannesburg – Kigali – Bujumbura.

South Africa's flag carrier South African Airways will start operating flights between Johannesburg and Kigali (Rwanda) and onwards to Bujumbura (Burundi) from 17 January 2012.
The new flights have been conveniently timed to provide global connections via SAA's Johannesburg hub and to their international network, including Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, North America and Australia.
The route between Johannesburg to Kigali and onwards to Bujumbura will be serviced three times a week by an Airbus A319 aircraft that can accommodate 120 passengers in a two-class (business and economy) configuration.

South African Airways expands its African route network

South Africa's flag carrier South African Airways is growing its route network by launching new flights to Kigali (Rwanda),  Bujumbura (Burundi) and Cotonou (Benin), from 31 October 2011.
Bujumbura and Kigali will be serviced by three weekly flights while Cotonou will be operated twice weekly as an extension of the airline’s already existing Libreville (Gabon) service. The new routes will be serviced by SAA’s A319 aircraft.

South African Airways (SAA) is the leading carrier in Africa, serving 20 destinations across the continent, as well as major destinations within South Africa, from its hub, Johannesburg. It is a member of the largest international airline network, Star Alliance. SAA is the winner of the "Best Airline in Africa" Award in the regional category for nine consecutive years and the winner of "Service Excellence Africa" for two consecutive years.

Single East African visa: Five East African nations are nearing agreement

The five East African nations (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda & Burundi) that agreed on a work plan to pilot a single visa for East Africa back in March 2010 "are (now) nearing agreement to collapse their borders so that foreigners will need only one visa to travel to any of the five", NYtimes.com is reporting in their issue from 02 July 2010. The original plan was to implement the trial phase in June 2010 already, but it seems it might take a little longer.

East Africa might get a single tourist visa from June 2010 on. The East African Community (EAC) sectoral ministerial council on Tourism and Wildlife said a work plan to pilot the programme had been developed. The trial phase will involve tourists from Germany, France, the US, Italy, Japan, Canada, South Africa, the UK, Netherlands, Belgium and the Scandinavian countries.
