British airline Virgin Atlantic has resumed its seasonal service between Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London and Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town on 28 October 2023. The daily service will run until end of March 2024. The seasonal flights will add over 80,000 seats between London and Cape Town and complement Virgin Atlantic's existing service between London and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg. The Cape Town flights are operated on Virgin Atlantic's Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

Angola: TAAG Angola Airlines to introduce flights to the UK!
According to reports from various aviation news websites, TAAG Angola Airlines, the flag carrier of Angola, is set to make a return to the United Kingdom. The airline, which just recently ordered four 787 Dreamliner aircraft from Boeing, is set to introduce a non-stop service on bord a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft between Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport (LAD) in Luanda and London Gatwick (LGW), the secondary international airport serving London. Flights are expected to commence on 14 December 2023. TAAG Angola Airlines has not released a schedule yet. However, British airline schedule analyst @SeanM1997 recently wrote on "X" (formerly twitter), that, according to his information, the airline will operate three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (LAD > LGW) and on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays (LGW > LAD). Airlink & British Airways sign codeshare agreement!
British Airways, the flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom, and South African privately-owned regional airline Airlink have signed a codeshare agreement. Under the agreement, British Airways’ customers travelling from or transiting through Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London will be able to connect to their final destination via Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town or OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg on a single ticket. In total, 18 destinations are available as codeshare options when travelling from London via Johannesburg and Cape Town. Examples include:
- Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London to Durban via Johannesburg
- Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London to Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) via Cape Town or Johannesburg
- Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London to Skukuza via Cape Town or Johannesburg
- Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London to Windhoek via Cape Town or Johannesburg
- Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London to Walvis Bay via Cape Town or Johannesburg
Codeshare tickets are now available to book for travel from 15 February 2023 onwards. Other Southern Africa destinations are pending government approval and might join the codeshare agreement at a later date.
British Airways currently flies twice daily between Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London and Johannesburg with A380 aircraft, twice daily between Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Cape Town with B777 and A350 aircraft and three times per week between Gatwick Airport (LGW) in London and Cape Town with B777 aircraft.

British Airways to resume flights between London <> Cape Town!
The flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom, British Airways, is set to ramp up services to South Africa, with double daily services between Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg expected by mid-December 2021. The airline will also restart services between London and Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town, offering three flights a week in November 2021 (02 November 2021?), before moving to a double daily service in December 2021.
As part of the relaunch of its Cape Town service, British Airways Holidays is offering promotions, including special hotel packages in November 2021.

Virgin Atlantic to resume flights between London <> Cape Town!
British airline Virgin Atlantic has announced that it is expanding its portfolio of flights to South Africa. According to the airline, bookings soared by 150% in just 24 hours following the announcement that the country would be removed from the UK’s "red list", which came into effect on 11 October 2021.
From 08 November 2021, flights from Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London to OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg will increase from three times a week to a daily service. The relaunch of the Virgin Atlantic's service between Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London and Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town is also being brought forward, following a huge surge in customer demand. From 17 December 2021, the airline will fly three times weekly to the the "Mother City".
Virgin Atlantic’s South African services will both operate on the airline’s state of the art Boeing 787-9, with 31 Upper Class, 35 Premium and 192 Economy Delight, Classic and Light seats.

British Airways to increase flights to South Africa! [update]

The flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom, British Airways, has announced that it will increase its service between Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg. Effective 16 August 2021 the airline will operate two instead of just one weekly flight on that route. Flights will depart London for Johannesburg on Thursdays and Saturdays, while the return flights will depart Johannesburg for London on Wednesdays and Sundays. According to British Airways, the bi-weekly service will remain in place until 30 August 2021. From 31 August 2021 until 27 September 2021 the airline is planning to operate daily flights between London and Johannesburg.

Coronavirus outbreak: South Africa to close borders to all citizens from high-risk countries!
South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared the Coronavirus outbreak a national disaster and announced a raft of unprecedented interventions to curb the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa. These include the closing of 35 ports of entry and imposing a travel ban on foreign nationals from countries hardest hit by the Coronavirus pandemic. The travel ban will be imposed from 18 March 2020 on foreign citizens who come from Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Germany, United States, Germany, United Kingdom and China. Additionally, any foreign national who has visited any of the high risk countries in the past 20 days will be denied a visa. South African citizens returning from these countries will be subjected to testing and self-isolation or quarantine on return. Travellers from medium risk countries such as Portugal, Hong Kong and Singapore will be required to undergo high intensity screening. All travellers who have entered South Africa from high risk countries since mid-February will be required to hand themselves over for testing. We'll keep you updated!

British Airways to increase flights between London <> Cape Town! [update]
The flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom, British Airways, is set to increase the number of flights between Gatwick Airport (LGW) in London and Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town. Effective 10 January 2021, the airline will operate two extra return flights a week to the Mother City. The new services will mean that customers can choose from 19 flights a week to Cape Town from London, with the outbound and return flights overnight to maximise time in South Africa, alongside 14 to Johannesburg, again overnight both ways, and three to Durban.

update (13 May 2020): Virgin Atlantic has confirmed that it remains committed to relaunching the seasonal route between London <> Cape Town in October 2020 before the end of the year [update 23 June 2020], pending travel restrictions being lifted.

British Airways to increase flights between London <> Johannesburg!
The flag carrier and the largest airline in the United Kingdom, British Airways, will expand its service between Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg by four weekly flights per week from 28 October 2018. The additional flights will be operated on board the airline's newest aircraft, the Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner. British Airways currently operates 14 flights per week between London and Johannesburg on board the Airbus A380.

The flag carrier and the largest airline in the United Kingdom, British Airways, will suspend its twice-weekly service between Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London and Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport (LAD) in Luanda. The last flight from London to Luanda will be on 07 June 2018, while British Airways' last London-bound flight departing from Angola's capital will be on 09 June 2018. The airline currently operates a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the route.

Ethiopian Airlines to introduce flights between Addis Ababa <> Manchester!
Ethiopia's flag carrier, Ethiopian Airlines, is set to introduce a four-times-a-week service between Bole International Airport (ADD) in Addis Ababa and Manchster Airport (MAN) in Manchester. The service will start on 01 December 2018, initially transiting via Brussels Airport (BRU) in Brussels. It will leave Addis Ababa at 00:45, arriving in Manchester at 06:55. On the return it departs Manchester at 19:00 and arrives in Addis Ababa at 06:00. Ethiopian Airlines will operate the ultramodern Boeing 787 on the route with business and economy classes.

British Airways to introduce direct flights between London <> Durban!
The flag carrier and the largest airline in the United Kingdom, British Airways, is set to introduce scheduled direct flights between Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London and King Shaka International Airport (DUR) in Durban. Effective 29 October 2018, the airline will operate three weekly return flights to Durban on board a Boeing 787-8. The service will be the only non-stop link between Europe and Durban.

Virgin Atlantic to add a second daily service between London <> Johannesburg!
British airline Virgin Atlantic is set to introduce a second daily service between Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg on 28 October 2018. The additional flight will be operated by a Boeing 787-9 aircraft and will add 180,000 seats on the route. Tickets will be available to book from 24 March 2018.

South African Airways: New aircraft and change in frequency on Johannesburg <> London route!
South Africa's flag carrier, South African Airways, is set to introduce a new aircraft on its route between OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg and Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London. Effective 25 March 2018, the airline will introduce the new Airbus A330-300 on the London route. A month later, from 20 April 2018, South African Airways will also reduce its current double daily service between Johannesburg <> London to a single daily flight.

Zimbabwe: Keep the police report if your passport has been lost or stolen!
According to the latest Foreign travel advice - Zimbabwe (04 September 2017) by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office of the Government of the United Kingdom, it may be necessary to produce a police report if your passport has been lost or stolen and you have been issued with an Emergency Travel Document (ETD) as immigration officials in Zimbabwe want to see evidence of entry stamps on departure.
Zimbabwe usually recognises UK Emergency Travel Documents (ETDs) as valid travel documents. ETDs are accepted at ports of entry and exit and must be valid for the period of intended stay.

Rwanda: Rwandair to launch direct flights to London in May 2017!

British Airways ups operations to East Africa
The flag carrier of the United Kingdom, British Airways, is set to up capacity on flights to its two East African destinations Nairobi in Kenya and Entebbe in Uganda. From the end of March 2014 the airline will replace its Boeing 777 on the daily service between London and Nairobi with the larger Boeing 747-400. This will add nearly 800 seats a week on the route. Also from the end of March 2014 British Airways will increase the frequency between London and Entebbe from currently three flights per week to four flights per week.

British Airways to increase London <> Cape Town from May 2014
The flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom, British Airways, plans to increase its operations between London (Heathrow) and Cape Town in South Africa during the Northern summer season. The airline will add three extra flights to Cape Town on board Boeing 777-200ER aircraft from 01 May 2014 - 25 Octoer 2014. This will bring British Airways' number of frequencies between London and Cape Town to 10 weekly.
