Garden Route National Park: Tsitsikamma Suspension Bridge temporarily closed for maintenance!

South African National Parks (SANParks) has confirmed that the iconic Tsitsikamma Suspension Bridge, located at the Storms River Mouth in the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park, will be temporarily closed for essential maintenance from 02 February 2026 to 07 February 2026. The bridge is scheduled to reopen to visitors on 08 February 2026. SANParks emphasizes that this closure is necessary to ensure visitor safety while maintenance work is carried out.

The Tsitsikamma Suspension Bridge is one of the park’s most visited attractions, offering breathtaking views of the Storms River Gorge and the surrounding indigenous forests. Stretching high above the river, the bridge provides a thrilling experience for nature lovers and photographers alike, making it a must-see stop on any Garden Route itinerary. Visitors are encouraged to explore alternative trails and viewpoints in the Tsitsikamma Section during the temporary closure.

Garden Route National Park: Storms River Mouth Suspension Bridge temporarily closed for weekday maintenance!

South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that the iconic suspension bridge at Storms River Mouth Rest Camp in the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park will be temporarily closed for essential maintenance from 01 to 15 September 2025.

  • The cloure applies only on weekdays (Monday–Friday).
  • The bridge will remain open on weekends (Saturdays & Sundays) during the maintenance period.

Although the suspension bridge will be inaccessible on weekdays, visitors can still enjoy the spectacular natural beauty and a wide range of activities at Storms River Mouth, including:

  • Waterfall Trail & Otter Trail (Day Access)
  • Loerie & Blue Duiker Trails
  • Kayak & Lilo Adventures
  • Birdwatching & Nature Photography
  • Restaurant & Gift Shop

Garden Route National Park: Road maintenance on the main access road to the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp!

South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that there will be road maintenance conducted on the main access road to the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp in the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park. The road maintenance work will start on 01 February 2024 and is expected to be completed on 06 May 2024.
Garden Route National Park encompasses the Tsitsikamma, Wilderness and Knysna sections, a variety of mountain catchments, indigenous forests and fynbos areas, all valued for their diverse natural and cultural heritage. The Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park covers an 80 kilometreslong stretch of coastline with Nature's Valley is at the western end of the park. The main accommodation is the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp, location at Storms River Mouth.

Garden Route National Park: Opening of a temporary restaurant structure at Tsitsikamma section!

South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that it has opened a temporary restaurant structure at Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park after the previous structure was washed out by a storm surge on 16 September 2023. According to SANParks, the temporary restaurant boasts a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, offering visitors a unique blend of delectable cuisine. The permanent restaurant building structure is scheduled to be completed mid-2024. We'll keep you posted!

Garden Route National Park: The entrance road to the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp was approved for upgrading

update (20 Sept 2013): Work at the entrance road to the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp is now expected to be completed by November 2013, with only finishing touches being performed in December 2013.  

The entrance road to the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp, the only entrance road to the Tsitsikamma section of the Garden Route National Park, was approved for upgrading and work underway is scheduled to end by 08 December 2013. The upgrades include excavation and repairs to the road as well as re-tarring the surface. There will be stop and go's once the work commences but South African National Parks (SANParks) promises do their best to ensure that this has a minimal impact on our visitors' experience. The Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park is situated some 615km from Cape Town, 195km from Port Elizabeth and 68km from Plettenberg Bay. The access route from the N2 highway and all internal roads are tarred.
