Wildlife video: Lions vs. crocodile (South Luangwa National Park, Zambia)

Filmed right in front of one of the tents at the Zungulila Bushcamp in the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, the video below shows two adult lionesses and five cups on their freshly killed impala as well as an uninvited visitor: a huge crocodile that got attracted by the smell... Enjoy!

Wild animals killed 86 people in Mozambique in 2011

The Government of Mozambique has announced some data regarding wildlife-human related incidents in 2011. According to Government spokesperson Alberto Nkutumula, at least 86 people were killed by animals in Mozambique in 2011 and another 60 people were injured by wild animals during the same period. Most incidents were caused by crocodiles, which killed 47 people in Mozambique, followed by elephants (20 people) and hippos (13 people).

Mozambican wildlife authorities culled a total of 336 animals in 2011 to counter the problem (250 crocodiles, 46 elephants, 17 hippos, 13 buffalos, 4 lions, 3 snakes, 2 hyenas & 1 leopard).

The areas worst affected in 2011 are the Zambezi River basin and the central province of Sofala.

South Africa: Five crocodiles introduced at Tau Game Lodge

The Tau Game Lodge in the Madikwe Game Reserve, located 90 km north of Zeerust and only three to four hours' drive from both Johannesburg and Pretoria, has introduced five crocodiles to the waterhole in front of the lodge. The five crocs are just three years old, but even so they’re already two metres long.

 

The crocodiles, which are coming from a crocodile farm in Groot Marico, have been notched for identification purposes. They are currently in a holding area on one side of the waterhole, where they will be given time to adapt to their new environment. A croc-proof fence has been erected to ensure the safety around the waterhole.

Video: Crocodile attacks elephant's trunk!

I am not too sure if the video footage was actually taken in Chobe National Park in Botswana (as stated in the Telegraph's desc.) or in South Luangwa National Park in Zambia (other sources), but the following video shows how an approx. 3 m crocodile is attacking an adult female elephant, accompanied by a baby elephant, on the it's trunk at a water source! The whole attack lasted for around 10sec only; the elephant escaped almost unharmed and the croc disappeared... check the footage!

Kruger National Park: Leopard vs. Crocodile

Wildlife photographer Hal Brindley was photographing hippos at a Silolweni Dam in Kruger National Park in South Africa when he witnessed a leopard attacking and killing a young nile crocodile.



According to the photographer, this photo sequence is the only time such behavior has ever been documented.
