Cape Town restricts large tour buses in the Bo-Kaap!

The City of Cape Town is set to introduce new traffic regulations for tour buses entering Cape Town's historic Bo-Kaap neighborhood. Large tour buses (36-seaters and above) will no longer be permitted to travel through the Bo-Kaap via Wale Street.
Smaller tour buses, with 35 seats or fewer, may still access Wale Street but are limited to a designated drop-and-go zone located outside the Bo-Kaap Museum. After dropping off passengers, these buses must proceed to the designated parking area behind the Schotsche Kloof Civic Centre on Yusuf Drive. Additionally, the existing parking area along Buitengracht Street (southern approach, just south of Wale Street) will be converted into a dedicated stop-and-drop facility for large tour buses. A separate section of Buitengracht - between Church Street and Shortmarket Street - will also be upgraded with three new bus bays to support the change. The signage will be implemented soon

These measures aim to reduce traffic congestion in the Bo-Kaap, following multiple complaints from residents about large tour buses disrupting traffic flow along Upper Wale Street.

Previous episodes of the "The Love Cape Town Neighbourhood series" include Kalk Bay, Cape Town CBD, Woodstock, Constantia, Somerset West, Langa, Khayelitsha, Durbanville, Blouberg, the Bo-Kaap and Mitchell's Plain.



"The Love Cape Town Neighbourhood series" was launched by Cape Town Tourism in 2015 to promote and highlight Cape Town's diverse suburbs. The first three episodes were released in September 2015, another three in March 2016, the seventh episode on 15 January 2017, the eigth episode on 07 March 2017, the ninth episode on 04 May 2017, the tenth episode on 16 August 2017, the 11th episode on 16 May 2018 and the the 12th episode on 12 June 2018.

Cape Town Tourism has released a new episode of the "The Love Cape Town Neighbourhood series" featuring Mitchells Plain, a township located on the Cape Flats on the False Bay coast between Muizenberg and Khayelitsha. Previous episodes of the "The Love Cape Town Neighbourhood series" include Kalk Bay, Cape Town CBD, Woodstock, Constantia, Somerset West, Langa, Khayelitsha, Durbanville, Blouberg and the Bo-Kaap.

The former township is an historical centre of Cape Malay culture in Cape Town and has always been a multicultural area. Previous episodes of the "The Love Cape Town Neighbourhood series" include Kalk Bay, Cape Town CBD, Woodstock, Constantia, Somerset West, Langa, Khayelitsha, Durbanville and Blouberg.
