Cape Town: Upgrade of the Seaforth beachfront in Simon’s Town!

The City of Cape Town has informed the public that it has commenced with the upgrade of the Seaforth beachfront in Simon’s Town last week. The work will continue until December 2023 and includes the upgrading the existing footways, the reconstructing the retaining walls, the upgrading the stairs and existing railings as well as the upgrading the hard and soft landscaping. During the upgrade, visitors and residents are advised of the following:

• The walkway from Martello Road (IMT bus parking) to Seaforth beach (parking) will be closed for the duration of the project. All tour bus commuters visiting Boulders Beach are advised to walk back up to Main Road and down Whalers Way to accessBoulders Beach. Signage will direct visitors along the 1km detour route via Martello – Queen Victoria – Whalers Way.
• Beach access form Seaforth parking will change as construction work moves around on site. Whenever the main access points are closed off, visitors may be directed along the blue access route to the beach.
• Beach access from the IMT parking area will be via a side gate when construction activities allow. Access will be clearly directed through signage.

The Love Cape Town Neighbourhood series Ep. 12 - Simon's Town & Cape Point

Cape Town Tourism has released a new episode of the "The Love Cape Town Neighbourhood series" featuring the historic town of Simon's Town, located on the shores of the False Bay, as well as an trip down to the famous Cape Point, a promontory at the southeast corner of the Cape Peninsula. Previous episodes of the "The Love Cape Town Neighbourhood series" include Kalk Bay, Cape Town CBD, Woodstock, Constantia, Somerset West, Langa, Khayelitsha, Durbanville, Blouberg, the Bo-Kaap and Mitchell's Plain.



"The Love Cape Town Neighbourhood series" was launched by Cape Town Tourism in 2015 to promote and highlight Cape Town's diverse suburbs. The first three episodes were released in September 2015, another three in March 2016, the seventh episode on 15 January 2017, the eigth episode on 07 March 2017, the ninth episode on 04 May 2017, the tenth episode on 16 August 2017, the 11th episode on 16 May 2018 and the the 12th episode on 12 June 2018.

Cape Town: Boulders Penguin Colony undergoes an upgrade!

South African National Parks (SANParks) announced on 30 January 2017 that the Boulders Penguin Colony in Simon's Town, which forms part of the Table Mountain National Park, will undergo an upgrade. The refurbishment will start on 13 February 2017 and is expected to take about 8 month. The upgrade will see various visitor facilities refurbished and re-constructed. To accommodate visitors wishing to enter the Boulders Penguin Colony, the project will be completed in three phases.

Access to visitors will be uninterrupted during the refurbishment and the operational hours of Table Mountain National Park will remain unchanged. It is however important to note the Boulders Info Centre will be closed during the construction period. Boulders telephone numbers will remain the same and should remain operational over the period.

Simon's Town: Burghers’ Walk re-opened

The City of Cape Town, in collaboration with South African National Parks (SANParks), re-opened the Burghers’ Walk in Simon’s Town on Friday 9 December 2011. The walk was temporarily closed to allow for crucial rehabilitation since 01 July 2011.
Burghers’ Walk is a section of the Simon’s Town coastline that is home to one of only two land-based African Penguin colonies in South Africa and provides nesting grounds for a significant portion of this colony of endangered birds.

The rehabilitation at Burghers’ Walk has included:

• the implementation of measures to control soil erosion
• the removal of alien vegetation, rubble and litter
• the planting of indigenous vegetation
• the installation of a wooden boardwalk

Entrance to Burghers’ Walk is free and the area can be accessed via the wooden gate in Bellevue Road or via other access ways on Links Avenue. The City requests that any member of the public entering Burghers’ Walk familiarise themselves with the rules and regulations of the area, as stipulated on the signboards.
The City appeals to any member of the public wishing to continue on the path beyond the wooden boardwalk to do so responsibly by:

• keeping the gate closed at all times
• always remaining on the path
• being cautious of penguins, not interacting with them
• keeping dogs on a lead at all times

Penguin Monitors will be available on site during the week and they will assist with any further information required.
