update (15 Jan 2013): Cape Point had 95,000 visitors in December 2012 (2011: 90,000) and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens experienced their best December ever (81,771 visitors, a 5% increase on December 2011), while Robben Island saw a decrease in visitor numbers in December 2012 (41,250 visitors; a decrease of 1,000 visitors from December 2011).
update (11 Jan 2013): Cape Town's famous V&A Waterfront had 3 015 227 visitors (+ 9.84% compared to Nov 2012) during December 2012. This is up from 2 745 386 in December 2011.
Cape Town's iconic Table Mountain, named one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature in 2012, is currently experiencing a record-breaking holiday season. According to Cape Town Tourism, Table Mountain Cableway ticket sales for December 2012 were 119,000. That is not only 29,000 more ticket sales than in November 2012, but also about 19,000 more sales than expected and the highest number of tickets sold for the last 83 years. Impressive!
