Namibia: Windhoek <> Okahandja road project 87% complete!

The CEO of the Namibian Roads Authority (RA), Conrad Lutombi, announced at a media briefing on the progress of the multi-billion-dollar Windhoek <> Okahandja road project during the official opening of an 11 km section of the road between the Omakunde and Gross Barmen interchange, that 87% of road project has been completed. The remaining 13% of work will be completed by March (May?) 2024. 

"Today we are opening another stretch of the road from Omakunde interchange up to the Gross Barmen interchange, which is just six kilometres away from the town of Okahandja. Motorists will now have an option to access Okahandja using this stretch or the off-ramp route via Osona. This is a dual carriage on both South and Northern directions," Lutombi said.
Mr Lutombi further announced that the 70 km complete stretch between Windhoek <> Okahandja, which was upgraded to a four-lane freeway, will be wholly opened to the public in December 2023 although not 100% complete. The official opening of the road, whose upgrade began in 2016, is expected to take place in July 2024. We'll keep you posted!

According to Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NRW), the opening of the new section of the Windhoek <> Okahandja road reduces the driving time between Windhoek and the Gross Barmen Resort by 30 minutes.

Namibia: Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) offers up to 50% discount for Namibians & SADC tourists!

Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR), the state-owned enterprise mandated to run the tourism facilities within the protected areas of Namibia, has announced that it has introduced a limited time special offer for residents of Namibia and the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Between 01 August 2023 and 31 October 2023, NWR is offering up to 50% off at select resorts in Namibia, inlcuding Ai-Ais Hotsprings and Spa, Hardap Dam Resort, Gross Barmen, Popa Falls, Namib Naukluft and Waterberg.

"We are delighted to present this exclusive offer to our fellow Namibians. Our resorts are not just places to stay; they serve as gateways to explore and connect with the natural wonders of our beautiful country. Through this special offer, we aim to make it more accessible for Namibians to indulge in their favorite pastimes and create unforgettable memories," said NWR's spokesperson, Nelson Ashipala.
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is an inter-governmental organization whose goal it is to further regional socio-economic cooperation and integration as well as political and security cooperation among 16 countries in southern Africa. The 16 countries are: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, eSwatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Gross Barmen Resort (Namibia): Increased entrance fee for day visitors!

Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) has announced that the entrance fee for day visitors to the Gross Barmen Resort has been increased to N$200.00/person. The price adjustment is for day visitors intending to make use of the braai facilities and mini pool at the campsites. Day visitors who want to make use of the thermal pool and other facilities are required to pay an additional N$100.00/person.
According to Francois Snyders, NWR Gross Barmen Resort Manager, "the increase is necessary to ensure the upkeep of the facilities that are accessible to day visitors. At the same time, this will also preserve the facilities for future generations to come".

Namibia: NWR introduces springboks to the Gross Barmen Resort!

Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) has introduced springboks to its Gross Barmen Resort on 19 August 2017. The introduction of the small antilope species is one step towards further introducing other wildlife at the establishment.



Gross Barmen Resort, located around 100 km from Namibia's capital city of Windhoek and 24 km east of Okahandja, has been built around a natural mineral hot spring. The resort includes facilities for spa & wellness, fitness, recreation, and leisure. The main attraction of the resort is the health and hydro/ medical spa centre, featuring thermal springs and providing a full range of treatments, massages, and health activities for relaxation.

Namibia: Gross Barmen resort to be redeveloped

Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) is currently redeveloping "Gross Barmen". The resort, known for its thermal spring, will get a day visitors area, campsite, upmarket villas, and of course, a hot spring spa.

The overnight guests will be located within the same ground but 3km from the day visitors area. Both areas will also be completely segregated.
The new facilities at Gross Barmen will include rejuvenated indoor and outdoor swimming pools, healing and health-centre for integrated medical post surgery rehabilitation services; active-lifestyle centre with squash courts, and a beauty treatment centre.  It will also encompass a healthy-lifestyle retail section, a lifestyle village and a mini hotel.

Gross Barmen has been closed since 01 November 2010. The total redevelopmentof the camp will take around 30 months.
