Namibia: Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) offers up to 50% discount for Namibians & SADC tourists!

Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR), the state-owned enterprise mandated to run the tourism facilities within the protected areas of Namibia, has announced that it has introduced a limited time special offer for residents of Namibia and the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Between 01 August 2023 and 31 October 2023, NWR is offering up to 50% off at select resorts in Namibia, inlcuding Ai-Ais Hotsprings and Spa, Hardap Dam Resort, Gross Barmen, Popa Falls, Namib Naukluft and Waterberg.

"We are delighted to present this exclusive offer to our fellow Namibians. Our resorts are not just places to stay; they serve as gateways to explore and connect with the natural wonders of our beautiful country. Through this special offer, we aim to make it more accessible for Namibians to indulge in their favorite pastimes and create unforgettable memories," said NWR's spokesperson, Nelson Ashipala.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is an inter-governmental organization whose goal it is to further regional socio-economic cooperation and integration as well as political and security cooperation among 16 countries in southern Africa. The 16 countries are: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, eSwatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Limpopo: The Waterberg Living Museum has been reopened!

The Waterberg Living Museum in Limpopo has been reopened today. The Museum, which is combination of a living classroom, a natural & cultural history museum, an exhibit of living creatures, and a botanical garden, only opened its doors to the public in January 2020 and was forced to close at the end of March 2020 due the coronavirus pandemic. The Waterberg Living Museum provides an enriching educational experience to visitors of all ages, particularly the youth, by bringing together the past and the present through established and conserved living, organic and anthropomorphic collections. There is no cost for entrance to the main complex of the Waterberg Living Museum, which includes the Livingstone Lounge Restaurant & Tea Garden, curio shop and ablution facilities. However, self-guided tours cost R75/person for adults, R50 for pensioners R35/person for children (children under the age of six: free entry). Guided tours are also available. They take place at 10:30 and 14:00 and cost R150/person for adults, R100/person for pensioners and R70/person for children. The Waterberg Living Museum is open from 10:00 - 17:00 from Tuedays to Saturdays and from 10:00 - 13:00 on Sundays. It is located about 25 km out of the town of Vaalwater on the Melkrivier/Marken road.

Limpopo (South Africa): The new "Waterberg Living Museum" has been opened!

We somehow missed it out, but at the end of January 2020 the new Waterberg Living Museum in Limpopo opened its doors to the general public. The museum is a living classroom, a natural & cultural history museum, an exhibit of living creatures, and a botanical garden, all in one place. It provides a unique, enriching educational experience to visitors of all ages, particularly the youth, by bringing together the past and the present through established and conserved living, organic and anthropomorphic collections. There is no cost for entrance to the main complex of the Waterberg Living Museum, which includes the Livingstone Lounge Restaurant & Tea Garden, curio shop and ablution facilities. Entrance to the museum exhibits costs R100/person for adults, R70/person for 12 - 18year olds and R60/person for 6 - 11 year olds. The Waterberg Living Museum is open from 09:00 - 17:00 from Tuedays to Saturdays and from 09:00 - 14:00 on Sundays. It is located about 25 km out of the town of Vaalwater on the Melkrivier/Marken road.

Marakele National Park: Braai stands to be constructed at Bontle Rest Camp

According to South African National Parks (SANParks) the construction of braai stands at Bontle Rest Camp in Marakele National Park will be completed by mid July 2019.Bontle Rest Camp, which is located in close proximity to the main entrance gate of Marakele National Park, consists of 36 camp sites with power points, arranged into three clusters with one communal ablution block per cluster. The Rest Camp also has 10 tented units which consist of four family units and six two sleeper units. All these units have a private veranda and are self-catering.



Marakele National Park is located in the heart of the Waterberg Mountains and forms part of the Waterberg Biosphere in Limpopo. The National Park is home to most of the large mammals synonymous with the African bush, including elephant and leopard. Large predators such as brown hyena, leopard and now also lion, also occur in Marakele National Park.

Marataba Lodge (South Africa): A very close elephant encounter (video)

Some guests of the Marataba Lodge, a luxury safari lodge located at the foot of the Waterberg Mountains, recently had the the rare opportunity to get up close and personal with an elephant bull while on safari. A scary, but also fascinating encounter with the largest extant terrestrial animal on earth. During the video you can hear a calming voice in the background talking to the elephant, which indicates that tour guide was in control of the situation and didn't put his clients on high risk. Anyway, the encounter was probably still one of those once in a lifetime experiences all pax in the safari vehicle will surely never forget.

The world's first dedicated rhino orphanage opened in South Africa

The world's first dedicated, non-commercial centre to care for baby rhinos has officially opened at the Entabeni Game Reserve in the Waterberg in the Limpopo Province in South Africa. The orphanage, which exact location is secret due to security reasons and which will therefore not be open to the public, has facilities to house up to 35 baby rhinos.



The Entabeni Game Reserve, owned and operated by Legend Lodges, is covering an area of 220 km² and is home to lions, elephants, giraffes, leopards, warthogs, hippos and other safari animals in a variety of habitats.

The Entabeni Private Game Reseve, situated in the World Heritage "Waterberg Biosphere" of the Waterberg region, is a 22000 hectare malaria-free conservancy.

In the video, the head ranger of the Entabeni Private Game Reseve, John, takes us on a little elephant safari and explains about the geography of this beautiful area in the Limpopo province of South Africa.
