Kruger National Park: Kruger National Park Half Marathon returns to Skukuza on 02 August 2025!

South African National Parks (SANParks) has confirmed that the annual Kruger National Park Half Marathon is set to take place on Saturday, 02 August 2025, in and around Skukuza staff village in the Kruger National Park. The popular 21.1-kilometre event will kick off at 08:30 from the Cricket Club Sports Field and is expected to conclude at approximately 11:30.
This much-anticipated race typically draws around 2,000 participants, including members of the Kruger National Park Marathon Club, visiting runners, and enthusiastic spectators. The marathon offers a unique running experience in the heart of one of South Africa’s most iconic wildlife destinations.

Visitors to Kruger National Park - especially those staying in or passing through Skukuza Rest Camp - are kindly asked to be patient and cautious, as temporary road closures will be in effect to ensure the safety of runners and organizers.

The following roads in the Skukuza staff village will be closed during the event:

  • Oribi Street: From the first speed hump near the ECD Centre
  • Intersection of Oribi and Waterbuck Streets
  • Intersection of Grysbok and Rest Camp Streets

Guests are advised to plan their movements accordingly on race day and to allow extra travel time within the Skukuza area.

Held annually in the Kruger National Park, the Kruger National Park Half Marathon is more than just a race - it's a celebration of community, fitness, and conservation, all set within one of Africa's premier wildlife sanctuaries. While the event takes place within the staff village and not on tourist roads or game drive routes, it provides a vibrant atmosphere for those staying in the camp.
