The City of Windhoek has announced a series of official street name changes, effective Friday, 24 October 2025. According to a public notice issued on 20 October 2025, these updates are part of the municipality’s ongoing initiative to celebrate and preserve the legacy of distinguished Namibians who have made remarkable contributions to the country’s social, cultural, and developmental heritage.
In Khomasdal, Rolls Royce Street and Isabella Street will now be known as Reverend Frederick Joseph Street, while Street 1A and Street 1B in Auasblick will be renamed Immanuel Karuhumba Street.
In Olympia, Sydney Atkinson Street becomes Aaron Shihepo Street, and in Windhoek North, Sheffield Street will carry the new name Simataa Khama Street/Link.
In Katutura, Barug Street will be renamed Dr Fleming Aspara Street, and the Khomasdal Stadium will officially take on the new name Bobby Sissing Stadium.
The City of Windhoek confirmed that the physical installation of new street signs reflecting these changes will take place in the near future.
