Travellers planning to drive along Cape Town’s iconic Chapman’s Peak Drive should take note: between 01 October 2025 and the end of November 2025, the scenic coastal route will be closed every Wednesday from 10:00 to 16:00. The closures are necessary to allow teams to safely remove invasive alien vegetation, a critical conservation effort aimed at protecting the local fynbos ecosystem and reducing fire risks along the mountainside.
Chapman’s Peak Drive, often hailed as one of the world’s most spectacular coastal roads, stretches 9 kilometers along the cliffs between Hout Bay and Noordhoek. Its dramatic ocean views make it a favourite for tourists, photographers, and cyclists. The alien vegetation clearing is part of ongoing environmental management initiatives in the Cape Peninsula, helping to restore native plants and preserve the region’s biodiversity.
Travel tips:
- Plan your journey using alternative routes such as the Ou Kaapse Weg (M64) or Constantia Nek during Wednesday closures.
- Allow extra travel time if you’re exploring Hout Bay, Noordhoek, or nearby attractions.
- Consider visiting on other days to enjoy uninterrupted views and photography opportunities.
By supporting these conservation efforts, visitors help protect Cape Town’s natural heritage while still enjoying one of the most scenic drives in the world.
