The Namibian Minister of Works and Transport, Hon. Veikko Nekundi, officially inaugurated the Dr. Hage G. Geingob Freeway - the newly completed dual carriageway connecting Windhoek and Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) - on behalf of H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia, on Monday, 10 November 2025.
“This modern dual carriageway, which links Windhoek to Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH), stands as a proud symbol of progress, safety, and national unity,” said Hon. Veikko Nekundi during the opening ceremony.
The landmark infrastructure project was funded by the Government of the Republic of Namibia, with additional support from a grant by the Government of the People’s Republic of China. It has significantly improved travel efficiency, reduced journey times, and enhanced road safety for commuters and visitors travelling between the capital and Namibia's main international gateway.
Beyond boosting connectivity, the construction of the freeway also benefited local contractors, SMEs, and suppliers, creating vital employment opportunities and fostering skills development within Namibia's construction sector.
Originally renamed in August 2024 in honour of the late Dr. Hage G. Geingob, the freeway stands as a lasting tribute to his vision of a connected, inclusive, and prosperous Namibia.
