SANParks announces Augrabies National Park festive season reception hours!

The South African National Parks (SANParks) management of Augrabies National Park in South Africa's Northern Cape has announced the operating hours for the National Park's reception over the festive season. The recepetion will be open from 07:00 to 14:00 on 25 December 2024 and from 07:00 to 17:00 on 26 December 2024. 

Augrabies National Park is located in South Africa's Northern Cape, near the town of Kakamas. It is centered around the Augrabies Falls, a spectacular 56-meter waterfall on the Orange River. The park covers an area of about 820 km² and is known for its rugged landscapes, unique ecosystems, and dramatic granite formations.

Northern Cape: Unleaded fuel still not available in Augrabies National Park! [update]

update (27 November 2024): South African National Parks (SANParks) management of Augrabies National Park  just confirmed that unleaded fuel (95) is still not available inside the National Park.

South African National Parks (SANParks) management of Augrabies National Park has confirmed that unleaded fuel (95) is still not available inside the National Park. For the time being, SANParks recommends travellers to refuel their vehicles outside the Augrabies National Park at the the petrol stations in Augrabies or Kakamas (see map below). Unleaded fuel (95) is not available inside the National Park since early September 2024. We'll keep you posted!

update (06 May 2024): The management of Augrabies Falls National Park just confirmed that unleaded fuel is still not available.

The management of Augrabies Falls National Park in South Africa's Northern Cape just announced that unleaded fuel is currently not available in the National Park. However, Diesel is available. It is recommended to make use of fuel stations outside Augrabies National Park. The next fuel station outside the National Park is in the town of Kakamas, located about 40km from Augrabies Falls National Park entrance/exit gate.
Augrabies Falls National Park is located around the Augrabies Falls, about 120 km west of Upington in South Africa's Northern Cape. The National Park stretches along the Orange River and covers an area of 820km². Travelling from Upington on the N14 (that runs between Upington and Springbok) turn right just after Kakamas. From here it’s 28km further to Augrabies Falls National Park entrance/exit gate and another 3km to Reception and the Augrabies Falls Rest Camp.

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park: No ULP fuel currently available at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp! [update]

update (04 May 2024): The management of Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park has announced that unleaded fuel is available again at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp!

The management of Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park has announced that there is currently no ULP fuel (unleaded petrol) available at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp. Travellers are advised to fill up their vehicles with unleaded fuel outside the National Park in the town of Askham, which is located about 200 km north of Upington at the junction of the R31 and the R360 roads, or at Nossob Rest Camp or Mata Mata Rest Camps inside Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

Twee Rivieren is largest rest camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and its administrative headquarters. The camp is situated on the banks of the dry Nossob riverbed. Activities and facilities are diverse, as are the animals and plants found both within the camp and in the surrounding areas. Besides the new Interpretation Centre, Twee Rivieren Rest Camp has a reception, shop, fuel, restaurant, information centre and swimming pool. This is the only camp with 24 hrs electricity and cell phone reception in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park: Shortage of unleaded fuel at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp! [update]

update (20 February 2023): The situation has been resolved. Adequate unleaded fuel is available again.

According to a posting by Regional Communications Manager: Arid Parks at South African National Parks (SANParks), Genevieve Maasdorp, in the SANParks - Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park facebook group, Twee Rivieren Rest Camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is currently experiencing a low shortage of unleaded fuel. Travellers are advised to fill up their vehicles with unleaded fuel in Askham or at Nossob Rest Camp or Mata Mata Rest Camps. The provider of the are aware of the shortage and it is expected that the problem will be resolved soon. We'll keep you posted!

eSwatini: Countrywide fuel shortage!

The Kingdom of eSwatini is currently facing a shortage of unleaded 95 petrol. According to the country's Ministy of Natural Resources and Energy, the disruption in the availabillity is mainly due to fuel supply logistic problems at loading terminals and the high demand of unleaded 95 petrol in eSwatini during the festive season. The Ministry further said in a press statement that it has been assured by the affected oil companies (not all oil companies in eSwatini seem to experience the shortage) that the fuel supply situation is improving. Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park: Shortage of unleaded fuel at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp! [update]

update (26 January 2021): Unleaded fuel has been delivered to the Twee Rivieren Rest Camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and the limit of only 20l per vehicle has therefore been lifted.

According to a posting by Regional Communications Manager: Arid Parks at South African National Parks (SANParks), Genevieve Maasdorp, in the SANParks - Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park facebook group, unleaded fuel is currently rationed to 20l per vehicle at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. This is due to a non-delivery of unleaded fuel to the Rest Camp. Travellers are advised to fill up their vehicles with unleaded fuel at Mata Mata Rest Camp or Nossob Rest Camp. Diesel is unaffected by the shortage at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp.

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park: Unleaded fuel currently not available at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp!

South African National Parks (SANParks) announced today (24 March 2016) that unleaded fuel is currently not available at the Twee Rivieren Rest Camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The fuel pumps, which have been problematic since their upgrade in 2016, have stopped working completely and will be out of order indefinitely.
The diesel pump at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp is still in working condition. Fuel pumps at the Nossob Rest Camp and Mata Mata Rest Camp are also still in order. The fuel supplier Total is yet to upgrade these fuel stations.

South African National Parks (SANParks) advises visitors to fill up at Askham, a village located about 200 km north of Upington at the junction of the R31 and the R360 roads, before entering the Park from the South African side, or at Nossob Rest Camp and Mata Mata Rest Camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
