South Africa: Airlink resumes flights to Madagascar's largest and busiest tourist resort!

South African regional and domestic airline Airlink is set to resume flights to Madagascar's largest and busiest tourist resort. The airline will introduce one weekly direct service on Sundays between OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg and Fascene Airport (NOS) on the island of Nosy Be from 24 March 2024. Flights will depart Johannesburg at 09:10 and arrive on Nosy Be at 13:40. The return flight will depart Nosy Be at 14:25 and arrive in Johannesburg at 17:10.
The island of Nosy Be is located about eight kilometers off the northwest coast of Madagascar in the Mozambique Channel. The island is the most developed tourism destination in Madagascar.

Airlink to resume flights between Johannesburg <> Nosy Be (Madagascar)!

South African regional carrier Airlink is set to resume operations between OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg and Madagascar's largest and busiest tourist resort, Nosy Be. The service will re-commence on 23 June 2023 with a once weekly flight on Sundays. Airlink will operate its modern Embraer E-170 twin-engine jetliners on the Nosy Be service. In addition, the airline currently operates three flights weekly between Johannesburg and Ivato International Airport (TNR) in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. The service will increase to a daily service as demand permits.

Nosy Be (which is Malagasy for "Big Island") is an Indian Ocean Island situated off Madagascar's north-west coast in the Mozambique Channel. It is famous for its pristine beaches and unique fauna and flora, including the world-famous lemurs. Nosy Be is also ideally suited for outdoor adventure and water sport holidays in a non-commercialized environment, e.g. scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and sport fishing.

Airlink: Flights between Johannesburg <> Nosy Be (Madagascar) remain suspended!

South African privately-owned regional carrier Airlink has announced the further suspension of its service between OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg and Fascene Airport (NOS) on the island of Nosy Be, which is located off the northwest coast of Madagascar. Return flights to Madagascar's largest and busiest tourist resort will remain suspended up until 27 June 2021. According to Airlink Managing Director and CEO, Rodger Foster, the airline has sofar been unable to obtain certainty as to when Madagascar intends to reopen its borders for regional travel. Customers holding tickets will be able to rebook on a future flight at no additional cost. We'll keep you posted!

Ethiopian Airlines to introduce flights between Addis Ababa <> Nosy Be (Madagascar)!

Ethiopia's flag carrier, Ethiopian Airlines, will start a thrice weekly service on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between Bole International Airport (ADD) in Addis Ababa and Fascene Airport (NOS) on Nosy Be, Madagascar on 27 March 2018. The service to from Addis Ababa to Nosy Be will be via Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport (HAH) in Moroni, Comoros, while the return flight will be non-stop to Ethiopia's capital. Nosy Be, the airline's second gateway in Madagascar after Antananarivo, is the largest and busiest tourist resort of the island nation. The new route will be operated with a Boeing 737-800.

Airlink reintroduced flights between Johannesburg <> Nosy Be (Madagascar)

South African carrier Airlink has (re)introduced a direct service between OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg and Fascene Airport (NOS) on the island of Nosy Be (Madagascar) on 20 March 2016. The airline operates one weekly flight between the two destinations on Sundays on board an Airlink Embraer ERJ 135 regional jet aircraft. The flight departs at 09h30 from Johannesburg and arrives at Nosy Be at 14h00 (Malagasy time). The return flight departs Nosy Be at 14h45 and arrives in Johannesburg at 18h45 (SAST). Due to the flight duration and prevailing headwinds the aircraft performs an en-route technical fuel-stop in Vilanculos (Mozambique) on route from Nosy Be to Johannesburg to refuel. Departure and arrival times at OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) have been timed to connect with domestic, regional and international connecting flights.
Airlink suspended its service to Nosy Be in 2007 due to poor demand on the route.

The national airline of Madagascar, Air Madagascar, is with immediate effect offering weekly flights between Nosy Be's Fascene Airport (IATA: NOS) and Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport in South Africa. Nosy Be, an island located off the northwest coast of Madagascar, is the country's largest and busiest tourist resort.

The Air Madagascar, which is on the EU black list and therefore unable to fly to Europe at present, is operating flights every Saturday, departing Nosy Be at 10:10, arriving in Johannesburg at 13:00. Flights then depart Johannesburg at 14:10, arriving in Nosy Be at 18:55.
