Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park: Twee Rivieren Rest Camp is currently running very low on ULP fuel! [update]

update (02 October 2024): The management of Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park has informed the public that that the fuel situation at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp has been resolved.

The management of Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park yesterday (29 September 2024) announced that Twee Rivieren Rest Camp is currently running very low on ULP fuel (unleaded petrol). Travellers are advised to fill up their vehicles with unleaded fuel outside the National Park in the town of Askham, which is located about 200 km north of Upington at the junction of the R31 and the R360 roads, or at Nossob Rest Camp or Mata Mata Rest Camps inside Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The issue should be resolved by Wednesday (02 October 2024) at the latest. 

Twee Rivieren is largest rest camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and its administrative headquarters. The camp is situated on the banks of the dry Nossob riverbed. Activities and facilities are diverse, as are the animals and plants found both within the camp and in the surrounding areas. Besides the new Interpretation Centre, Twee Rivieren Rest Camp has a reception, shop, fuel, restaurant, information centre and swimming pool. This is the only camp with 24 hrs electricity and cell phone reception in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

Zimbabwe: Zuva Petroleum to accept foreign currency at eight DFI fuel stations!

Zimbabwean energy company Zuva Petroleum has announced that eight of its 72 retail service stations in Zimbabwe will be accepting foreign currency payments. Customers can pay for their fuel in foreign currency (US$) at the following fuel stations across the country: Lorraine, Groombridge, Pendennis, Valley (all in Harare), Macs Garage (Bulawayo), Oasis (Beitbridge), Palmerstone (Mutare) and Zambezi (Victoria Falls). All eight locations are DFI (direkt fuel imports) service stations, which means these sites are likely to have guaranteed fuel supplies.

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park: No diesel at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp! [update]

update (12 February 2019): Diesel is available again!

According to a posting in the SANParks - Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park facebook group by the Regional Communications Manager: Arid Parks at South African National Parks (SANParks), Genevieve Maasdorp, there is currently no diesel at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Visitors using Diesel vehicles are advised to fill up at the town of Askham before entering the park.

This is the only camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park with 24 hrs electricity and cell phone reception. update (30 November 2018): Diesel is available again at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Please note that a ratio has been implemented for Diesel at Nossob Rest Camp and Twee Rivieren Rest Camp to 40l per vehicle as Total did not deliver the full amount as was requested. We'll keep you posted!

Kruger National Park: Shortage of unleaded fuel in Shingwedzi Rest Camp!

South African National Parks (SANParks) just informed travellers visiting Kruger National Park that Shingwedzi Rest Camp is set to experience a shortage unleaded fuel. This is due to construction work at the filling station in the Rest Camp, that will take place from 09 November 2018 until 16 November 2018. Shingwedzi Rest Camp is situated in the northern part of Kruger National Park and set on the banks of the Shingwedzi River.


Leaded fuel, unleaded fuel and diesel are usually available at all major camps in Kruger National Park. All fuel stations accept legitimate petrol/fuel/garage cards, any VISA/MasterCard cards or cash as a form of payment.

Namibia: Limited fuel supply at /Ai-/Ais Hot Springs Spa & Resort!

update (19 May 2017): We just got the info from Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) that the situation went to normal now!

According to a press release by Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR), fuel suppy at the /Ai-/Ais Hot Springs Spa & Resort in the /Ai-/Ais-Richtersveld Transfrontier Park is currently limited [experiencing challenges].

 
The /Ai-/Ais Hot Springs Spa & Resort is located at the base of the mountain peaks at the southern end of Fish River Canyon in the Karas Region of southern Namibia.

The |Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park is a Peace Park located on the border between South Africa and Namibia. The park was formed in 2003 by combining the |Ai-|Ais/ Hot Springs Game Park in Namibia and the Richtersveld National Park in South Africa.

Namibia: No fuel available in Etosha National Park!

update (15 November 2016): The "Allgemeine Zeitung" reports in today's online edition, that fuel (550 ppm only) is available again at Etosha's Okaukuejo Camp.

According to Namibian newspaper "Allgemeine Zeitung", all three fuel stations inside Etosha National Park are currently out of fuel. The newspaper cites Namibia Wildlife Resorts' (NWR) spokesperson Mufaro Nesongano saying that problems with the fuel pumps at Okaukuejo Camp, Halali Camp and Namutoni Camp (all three camps are managed by NWR) caused the unavailability. Travellers visiting Etosha National Park are advised to refuel their vehicles in Outjo, Otavi or Tsumeb. [src.]

Kruger National Park: No leaded & unleaded fuel at Shingwedzi Rest Camp!

update (17 Oct 2016): Unleaded petrol available again at Shingwedzi Rest Camp in Kruger National Park. Leaded petrol is still not available. 

South African National Parks (SANParks) announced on 05 October 2016 that leaded and unleaded fuel is currently not available at Shingwedzi Rest Camp in Kruger National Park. Both fuel pumps are out of operation until further notice due to the decontamination of the tanks. The diesel fuel pumps are not affected by the decontamination, so that diesel is still available at the restcamp in the northern section of the Kruger National Park. We'll keep you posted!

Zimbabwe: Victoria Falls runs out of fuel

According to various news reports, Victoria Falls Town in Zimbabwe ran out of fuel over the last couple of days. Bulawayo24 is even reporting that "all (official) service stations in the town had no fuel".
Victoria Fall's accommodation establishments are usually fully booked or close to fully booked during festive season and especially right now, as the famous Victoria Falls Fest is going to start on 30 Dec 2012 for two days of parties and concerts.
Five litres of petrol are currently being sold at US$15 on the parallel market while diesel was at US$13 the same quantity.
