Scandinavian Airlines expands codeshare with Virgin Atlantic to South Africa!

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), the flagship carrier of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, has officially broadened its codeshare partnership with Virgin Atlantic, giving travellers seamless access to South Africa. The expanded agreement now includes direct SAS bookings to Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) and Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town, alongside existing destinations Dubai (DXB) and Malé (MLE; Maldives) for passengers connecting via Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London.
With this update, SAS places its “SK” code on selected Virgin Atlantic flights, enabling passengers to book these international routes directly through SAS’s website or travel channels. The expanded codeshare flights became available for booking on 06 October 2025, with travel commencing from 08 October 2025.

Both SAS and Virgin Atlantic are SkyTeam alliance members, offering enhanced opportunities for frequent flyer point earning and redemption across both carriers. This partnership strengthens connectivity between Europe, South Africa, and popular long-haul destinations, making it easier than ever for travellers to plan seamless international journeys.

South African Airways and Scandinavian Airlines have terminated their codeshare agreement!

South Africa's flag carrier, South African Airways (SAA), and the flag carrier of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), have terminated their codeshare agreement with effect from 10 December 2020. South African Airways is providing assistance only to ticketed passengers holding a South African Airways' ticket in case the ticket was issued on/before 10 December 2020. Customers holding such ticket will be offered the value of the unused sectors (coupons) as a credit for future travel. The credit can be used within the next 24 months from 10 December 2020. The reissued/reroute request and all travel must be completed on/before 10 December 2022. Refunds are not be applicable.

Denmark to close its Embassy in Zimbabwe!

Denmark will close its Embassy in Harare in Zimbabwe on 31 December 2016. Due to the Christmas holidays, the last actual working day is the 21 December 2016. The Danish Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa, will from 01 January 2017 have the official responsibility for Danish relations with Zimbabwe. Danish travellers in need of assistance in Zimbabwe will thus have to contact the Embassy in Pretoria. It is expected that a Danish honorary consulate will be established in Harare, but this is currently awaiting approval.

Zimbabwe: Austria has closed its embassy; Denmark has re-opened its embassy

Austria has closed its embassy in Zimbabwe, but not because of politics, but due to economic reasons. Outgoing Austrian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ms Maria Moya Goesth paid, told the media that Austria is currently is in the process of cutting down on expenditure and various foreign missions have been affected.
Austrians, who need to contact their embassy, or Zimbabweans seeking Austrian information will from now on have to visit or contact the Austrian embassy in Pretoria, South Africa.

The Danish embassy in Harare has officially re-opened its mission to Zimbabwe after it terminated the duty nine years ago. The embassy closed its mission in 2002 at the height of confrontations with the Zimbabwean government.
According to the new Danish Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ketil Karlsen, Danmark has resumed a more critical role in its engagement with Zimbabwe and is one of the five bilateral donors this year.

Did you know... that Carlsberg is the most popular beer in Malawi?

Back in 1966, during some independence celebrations in Malawi, a Danish Foreign Minister (not to sure if it was Per Hækkerup or Jens Otto Krag) visited the country. He wasn't impressed by the beers available and therefore suggested to the former Malawian President, Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda, that when he returned home, he would ask Danish beer brewers Carlsberg to open a brewery in the country. Said and done and two years later Carlsberg Malawi Brewery Limited (CMBL) was founded and officially inaugurated by former president Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda. By that time CMBL was the very first Carlsberg brewery outside Denmark!
Today, Carlsberg Malawi Brewery Limited is the only brewery to produce six varieties of Carlsberg (namely Carlsberg Green, Carlsberg Light, Carlsberg Classic, Carlsberg Elephant, Carlsberg Special Brew, Carlsberg Stout). Carlsberg Malawi has an impressive market share in Malawi with 97% of clear beer and 27% of total alcoholic beverages. Another African success story! [src.]

Denmark also chose Knysna as 2010 World Cup™ base

The Danish football team will stay at the luxurious Simola Golf & Country Estate in Knysna during the 2010 World Cup™ in South Africa. The 325-hectare estate is situated in the hills overlooking the Knysna Lagoon. The Danish team will be using Loerie Park, Knysna’s biggest public sporting facility as a practice field.

How to get there?
From Plettenberg Bay / Knysna C.B.D: When leaving Knysna on the Main Street (N2), turn right into Old Cape Road (around 200m from the Waterfront Drive traffic lights).
From George / Sedgefield: Drive towards Knysna, over the white bridge, and the length of the Lagoon road. Turn left into Old Cape Road after the Welbedacht turn-off.
From the turn-off: Follow Old Cape Road away from the Lagoon for approximately 3.5km. At the traffic circle bear right (opposite the Eastford entrance) and follow the road up to the Simola Hotel entrance (approximately 2km from the circle). [src.: simolaestate.co.za]
