Cape Town: The Table Mountain Cableway is set to reopen!

Cape Town's Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) is set to resume operations on 01 September 2020. The cable car will be running from 08:00 until 15:00 seven days a week. Strict health and safety protocols have been put in place. Visitors are to please abide by TMACC's rules and regulations and wear a mask at all times. Sanitising stations are placed at the entrance and exits of the upper and lower cable car stations and are also provided inside the cable car. A maximum of 26 passengers (instead of the normal carrying capacity of 65 passengers) plus the cabin master is allowed per ride in the cable car to allow enough space for physical distancing. The floors of the cable car have been demarcated to provide for safe distancing. To ensure correct ventilation, the TMACC operates the cable car with the windows removed. The handrails of the cable car will be sanitised between each trip and a deep clean of the cable car will be conducted daily. TMACC's health and safety representatives are on site to test the temperature of any passengers showing symptoms of COVID-19. Should someone have a high temperature, their physical contact with staff and visitors will be contained. For those who celebrated their birthdays during the national lockdown, it is possible for visitors to claim their free ticket. Claims can be made up to two weeks after the re-opening to local visitors.

Cape Town: The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company has introduced a special "one-way down hikers’ service"!

Cape Town's Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) has introduced a special one-way down hikers’ service. In response to the increased number of hikers accessing Table Mountain National Park, the company operates the service to provide a safe descent for hikers from its Top Station on Table Mountain. A maximum of 26 passengers (instead of the normal carrying capacity of 65 passengers) plus the cabin master is allowed per ride down in the cable car to allow enough space for physical distancing. No person is permitted to enter the cable car without a mask. The floors of the cable car have been demarcated to provide for safe distancing. To ensure correct ventilation, as per the Alert alert level three lockdown regulations, TMACC operates the cable cars with the windows removed. The cable car is getting sanitised after every ride and TMACC's health and safety representatives are on site to test the temperature of any passengers showing symptoms of COVID-19.

The "one-way down hikers' service" runs from 08:00 to 15:00 on Saturdays and Sundays, weather permitting. Tickets are available for purchase online or in the Wi-Fi Lounge at the top station. The one-way down ticket is valid for 7 days. The Wi-Fi Lounge at the Top Station is open for hot and cold beverages such as coffee and water. The Kiosk at the Lower Station also has snacks and takeaway meals such as sandwiches, salads and an assortment of cakes available. The Ticket Office at the Lower Station remains closed.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) temporarily suspended operations on 18 March 2020.

Cape Town: Table Mountain Aerial Cableway celebrates its 90th anniversary with a special discount price for South Africans!

Cape Town's Table Mountain Aerial Cableway will be celebrating its 90th anniversary on 04 October 2019 and is offering all South Africans a special gift. From 01 - 31 October 2019, locals with a valid South African ID (or birth certificate, for those aged four to 17) will qualify for a special R90/person return cable car ticket! The 90th anniversary special tickets will be available to book online on the website of the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway and at the Ticket Office at the Lower Cableway Station from 01 to 31 October 2019.

South Africa: The Aerial Cableway at Hartbeespoort Dam has been reopened

The Aerial Cableway at Hartbeespoort Dam in the North West Province of South Africa has officially been reopened. The Cableway got closed about 7 years ago due to a lack of maintenance, but in 2010 a private initiative aiming at establishing Hartbeespoort Dam as a key tourism hub in South Africa, bought the cable way and started to renovate it.
The Aerial Cableway, which is offering visitors panoramic views of the beautiful Magaliesberg, the Hartbeespoort Dam and the surrounding areas, now has 14 new cable cars, each able to carry six passengers.
The new facilities at the upper station of the cableway include a walkway around the mountain, a shop, a lookout bar, a KidZone and a Pizza Shack, with a restaurant and curio shop at the bottom. 

Ticket sales for the Aerial Cableway open at 08:30, the first ride up is at 09:00, and the last ride down is at 16:30. Tickets are R120 for adults and R60 for children (4-13 years). Webtickets cost only R100 per adult, and R50 per child. Entrance is free for children under the age of four. 
The Hartbeespoort Dam is just a 45-minute drive from Johannesburg and lies 35 km west of Pretoria. Nestled in the undulating foothills of the Magaliesberg Mountains, it’s a great escape from city living. There is an amazing choice of places to stay ranging from upmarket waterfront golf estates, boutique hotels, guest houses, B&B’s, self-catering homes to camping sites – almost all have stunning views of the dam.

Table Mountain Cableway will be closed for annual maintenance in July/August

Like every year, Cape Town's Table Mountain Cableway will close for for some days in winter for its annual maintenance. In 2012 the Cableway will be closed from 23 July 2012 and will reopen on 06 August 2012 if weather permits. The Cableway Visitor Centre will be open during this period and will operate normally.

Table Mountain Tickets for sale online

As of 17 Aug 2009 you can purchase Table Mountain cableway tickets online. The online tickets are available from www.tablemountain.net, the official website of the cableway. They are valid for seven days after purchase (full refunds are available during the 7 day period). Visitors can also extend the ticket for a further three weeks and forego a refund.

Adult return - R145 + R10 administrative fee (valid till 30 Sept. 2009)
Child return - R76 + R10 administrative fee (valid till 30 Sept. 2009)

Table Mountain Cableway will re-open to the public on Monday

Table Mountain Cableway will re-open to the public on Monday August 17, 2009, (weather permitting) after four weeks of annual maintenance.

Table Mountain Cableway is required to do annual maintenance to meet the highest global cableway standards set by the Swiss Governing Body for Cableways (BAV).
Visitors can take advantage of the specials that are on offer at the Cableway:

• free return ticket to adults on their birthday on presentation of a South African ID
• Cableway family winter special that offers two children under 18 years a free return trip if they are accompanied by a full paying adult (valid over weekends, school holidays and public holidays until September 15, 2009).
  Should your birthday have fallen within the Cableway's closure you may redeem this offer one week after (August 17 - 23, 2009) annual maintenance.
