The Nyungwe Nziza Project, a model tourism project strengthening sustainable ecotourism in and around the Nyungwe National Park in Rwanda, was named winner of the 2012 British Guild of Travel Writers' top Globe Award as well as winner of the awards' Wider World category.
Sited in south-west Rwanda's Nyungwe National Park, the Rwanda Development Board project was praised for harmonising tourism, wildlife, environmental and agrarian development in one of Africa's last surviving patches of primeval pre-Ice Age rainforests. The Nyungwe National Park is one of the world's richest and most diverse eco-systems and home to 25% of all of Africa's primates. Congratulations!

Lufthansa named "Eco-Aviation Airline of the Year"
Air Transport World, a monthly aviation trade publication that reports on the international airline industry, announced the winner of its first annual Eco-Aviation Awards, through which the puplication honors those companies who are demonstrating leadership in the field of eco-aviation.
Germany's flag carrier Lufthansa won the 2012 Eco-Airline of the Year – Gold Award for its comprehensive environmental and sustainability efforts, such as its dedication to fuel-efficiency by investing in fleet modernisation and developing a route networks that makes the airline's national and international flights even more effective.
FedEx Express, a cargo airline based in Memphis, Tennessee (USA), was awarded with the Eco-Airline of the Year - Silver Award for its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint across every part of its operations.
Low-cost airline Southwest Airlines, based in Texas (USA), won the Eco-Pioneer of the Year award, while Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (USA) was named Eco-Airport of the Year.
The Eco-Partnership of the Year award went to the Sustainable Aviation Fuels Northwest (SAFN) project and the Eco-Technology of the Year award to Pratt & Whitney, U.S.-based aerospace manufacturer.
The editors of Air Transport World will present the awards on 21 June 2012 at a dinner ceremony following the ATW 5th Annual Eco-Aviation Conference at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, Virginia (USA), from 20-21 June 2012.

South Africa: Cape Town International Airport (CTIA) named "Best Airport in Africa"
Cape Town International Airport has been awarded the Best Airport in Africa by the Airports Council International (ACI)) in the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) global awards for the second time in a row. Durban's King Shaka International Airport became third and OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg became fifth in the ranking, Upington International Airport has been awarded Best Regional Airport and East London Airport as the Most Improved Airport in service excellence.
The award ceremony will take place on 24 May 2012 at the ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly, Conference & Exhibition in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.

Wanderlust Travel Awards 2010 - Top Country: Namibia
Readers of UK's travel magazine Wanderlust voted Namibia their favourite country for the magazine's 2010 Travel Awards! The Southwest African country got a score of 95.1%, placing it ahead of Oman (94.78%), New Zealand (94.51%), Australia (93.48%) and Laos (93.24%), which completed the top five. Namibia's neighbor Botswana became 8th in the ranking!

The Wanderlust Travel Awards were based on their reader's travels from December 2008 to November 2009. In most categories, readers were asked to list up to four entries (eg countries visited) and score each one on its merits. The final positions are based on an average score for the entry (converted to a percentage) – so the results are based on satisfaction rather than the number of votes received. In the other categories (eg top travel personality) they simply counted the number of votes to determine the outcome; and in the newly introduced Special Awards, the winners were elected, wholly undemocratically, by the Wanderlust team
