Temporary road closure: Blasting operations near Windhoek-Rehoboth Road on 28 April 2025!

The Namibian Roads Authority (RA) has announced that blasting operations will take place today, Monday, 28 April 2025, near the Windhoek-Rehoboth Road, approximately one kilometer from the Police Road Block. The blasting is scheduled to begin at 14:00 and will last for about one hour.
During this time, the section of road between the 1km mark and the Police Road Block will be temporarily closed from 14:00 to 15:00.
Motorists traveling between Windhoek and Rehoboth are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and expect possible delays. Please exercise caution and follow all traffic instructions in the area.

Namibia: Road betterment works begin on critical route connecting Khaudum National Park!

The Namibian Roads Authority (RA), whose core business is to construct and maintain Namibia's road sector, has announced that the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa, today (21 November 2024) officiated the groundbreaking for phase 1 of the road betterment works on District Road 3472 (Ndiyona to Djaradjara) in the Kavango East Region.  
District Road 3472 is a vital artery connecting the Khaudum National Park to Trunk Road 0804 (Rundu-Ndivundu) on the northern side and Shikerete Village and Tsumkwe Settlement on the southern side. It also links numerous schools and clinics in the Kavango East region. The project will be constructed over 12 months.



Khaudum National Park is one of Namibia's most remote and rugged wildlife destinations. Located in the northeastern part of the country, near the border with Botswana, the National Park covers an area of approximately 3,842 square kilometers and is part of the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA).

Ranking: Namibia tops Africa in road quality!

The Namibian Roads Authority (RA) announced that, according to Statista, Namibia has the highest road quality infrastructure in Africa. The country reached an index rating of 5.57 on a scale from 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest) in terms of road condition and extensiveness. Egypt and Benin followed with a score of 5.53 and five, respectively. South Africa has the continent's 10th highest road quality infrastructure with a score of 3.97.
Namibia boasts an extensive road network, spanning over 48,875 km (2017). 6,664 km are standard bitumen roads, 412 km are low-volume bitumen roads, and the rest are gravel. Major highways include the A1 freeway between Windhoek and Okahandja (74 km) and the B1 highway (1,522 km), which runs from the northern border with Angola at Oshikango to the southern border with South Africa at Noordoewer.

Namibia: Windhoek-Okahandja dual carriageway (A1) officially opened!

The Namibian Roads Authority (RA), whose core business is to construct and maintain Namibia's road sector, has officially opened the new Windhoek <> Okahandja dual carriageway (A1) on 01 November 2024. The N$2.8 billion road project is a major upgrade of the 71 km stretch between Windhoek and Okahandja and is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time and improve road safety. The four-lane freeway connects Namibia to important trade routes, such as the east-west Trans Kalahari Highway and the north-south Windhoek-Luanda transport corridor.
The stretch of road between Windhoek and Okahandja, which has been reclassified from B1 to A1 in accordance with road classification standards, is the only A-rated road in Namibia.

Northern Namibia: Temporary Closure of District Road 3636 (Okapya - Eheke - Onakamwandi)!

Namibia's Roads Authority (RA), whose core business is to construct and maintain the country's road sector, has informed the public that the Okapya-Eheke-Onakamwandi road is temporarily closed until further notice. This is due to flooding. Motorists who are traveling from Eheke and Onakamwandi should use the DR3644 (Eheke to Ombundja) and access the D3607 to Oshakati/Ongwediva/Ondangwa.
Alternatively motorists are advised to use the DR3644 and connect to the DR3660 from Ondanadhambinga to access the DR4102 to Omengee and connect to the DR4167 to Ongwediva/Oshakati/Ondangwa.

Namibia: Section of DR3660 in the Oshana region closed due to flooding!

Namibia's Roads Authority (RA), whose core business is to construct and maintain the country's road sector, has informed the public that a section of the District Road 3660 (DR3660) in the Oshana region, from Shipepe to Oontanadhambinga, is currently closed due to flooding. The DR3660 branches off to Main Road 92 between Ongwediva and Ondangwa and is approximately 1.6 kilometres from the main road. The RA is requesting the public to make use of DR4102 (Aakwenyana to Omeege) as an alternative route in the interim. 

Namibia: Rosh Pinah <> Aussenkehr road closed until further notice!

Namibia's Road Authority (RA), whose core business is to construct and maintain the country's road sector, has announced that a section on the Rosh Pinah <> Aussenkehr road (DR212) will be closed from today, 04 January 2022, until further notice. This road is currently experiencing flooding and the water levels at that particular section (Fish River Crossing/Bridge) have exceeded the maximum height. The RA advises to make use of the Keetmanshoop <> Aus <> Rosh Pinah route until the water levels have subsided and road is deemed safe to motorists. We'll keep you posted!

Namibia: The Roads Authority has released an update on the conditions of roads in north eastern Namibia!

Namibia's Road Authority (RA), whose core business is to construct and maintain the country's road sector, has released an update on the status/condition of roads in Kavango West, Kavango East and the Zambezi Region in the north eastern part of Namibia (as of 05 March 2021):

Kavango East:

• TR08/4 Rundu - Divundu Road
• There are severe scattered potholes on the entire road. Three Bitumen Maintenance Units are currently repairing the damaged sections when the weather permits. The RA has also erected warning signs at critical places to alert motorist on the damage.
• As a long-term strategy, this road will be rehabilitated to mitigate future damages during rainy seasons. Should funds permit, rehabilitation will commence after the rainy season has ended.

Kavango West:

• District Road DR3476 - Mavatje from kilometre 3.1 to 4
• A bypass was done at the affected area and warning signs were erected on both sides. In addition, a number of culverts will be installed at the different sections.

Zambezi Region:

• Katima Mulilo
• Some sections on the following roads are damaged:
• District Road DR3507 (between Muyako and TR8/7 Ngoma)
• District Road DR3510 (End of surface in Bukalo to DR3512 Lusese)
• District Road DR3512 (TR8/7 Ikumwe to DR3510 Lusese)
• District Road DR3514 (MR125 Mwambezi to Zilitene)
• District Road DR3532 (DR3507 to Ibbu Combined School)
• District Road DR3533 (DR3507 to Mutikitila Primary School)
• District Road DR3535 (DR3507 to Isuswa Primary School)

Namibia: Road between Otavi <> Tsumeb partially flooded!

According to Namibia's Road Authority (RA), whose core business is to construct and maintain the country's road sector, heavy rainfall has caused the road (B1) between Otavi and Tsumeb in northern Namibia to be flooded at kilometre three and kilometre nine. The RA is requesting road users to exercise extreme caution when travelling on that road. As a precautionary measure, road users are advised to take the route via Grootfontein (B8, C42). Namibia: The Roads Authority has released an update on the conditions of roads in southern Namibia! [update]

update (08 March 2021): Namibia's Road Authority (RA), whose core business is to construct and maintain the country's road sector, has announced that that the following roads in the //Karas Region are now open to traffic:

• District Road D212/C13: Aussenkehr-Rosh Pinah
• Main Road M30 /C17: Keetmanshoop-Koës

Namibia's Road Authority (RA), whose core business is to construct and maintain the country's road sector, has released an update on the status/condition of roads in southern Namibia (as of 12 February 2021):

• Main Road M118 : Aus to Oranjemund road / section between Rosh-Pinah and Oranjemund
• Due to the Orange River in flood, the eastern road shoulder at kilometer 192 (25 km from Rosh-Pinah or 75 km from Oranjemund) has been affected and cracks have developed in the shoulder pavement. However, the road is open to all traffic and we have erected road signs to warn road users about the affected section. The road is narrow, kindly drive slowly, exercise extreme caution and comply with erected warning signs. We will keep monitoring the situation and give updates accordingly.
• District Road  D212 or tourist Route C13: From Noordoewer to Rosh-Pinah (Section between Aussenkehr and Rosh-Pinah)
• The Orange River has flooded and damaged some spots on this road and it is currently not safe to drive this road. The gravel section between Aussenkehr and Rosh-Pinah is thus still temporarily closed to traffic.

Namibia: The Roads Authority has released an update on the conditions of roads in the Karas Region!

Namibia's Road Authority (RA), whose core business is to construct and maintain the country's road sector, has released an update on the status/condition of roads in the Karas Region in southern Namibia that were damaged during the recent good rainfall (as of 02 February 2021):

• Homs River Bridge in Warmbad on District Road 210 (D210)
  The repair works are completed and D210 is accessible and open to all traffic.
• Main Road 30 (M30) or tourist Route C17: From Keetmanshoop to Koës
  Repair is underway, however, the road is still not accessible and is closed to traffic. The RA will release an update when it is accessible, safe and open to traffic
• M 25/Tourist route C11: From Karasburg to MR 26 Junction
  Main Road M25/C11 from Karasburg to Aroab has been made accessible and open to traffic. However, road users are cautioned to drive attentively because the repairs are not completed yet
• Main Road MR 33/C 15: From Stampriet to Hoachanas
  Main Road M33/C15 from Stampriet to Hoachanas has been made accessible and open to traffic. However, road users are cautioned to drive vigilantly because the repairs are ongoing and not completed yet.
  

Namibia: The Roads Authority has released an update on the conditions of roads countrywide! [update]

update (20 January 2021): Namibia's Road Authority (RA) has released an update on the status/condition of roads that were damaged by the ongoing good rainfall countrywide:

• Kharas Region:
• Main Road (MR) 27 or tourist Route C16: From Keetmanshoop to Aroab
• MR27 is now accessible and open to traffic. However, road users are requested to exercise extreme caution while driving on this road and to observe the installed warning signs at all times. Repair works are continuing and not all sections are completed yet.
• Main Road MR33/C15: From Stampriet to Hoachanas
• The Aoub River crosses this road and currently it is not safe to access it. This road has been closed temporary to all traffic between Stampriet and MR41.
• Note: Road users between Stampriet and Hoachanas are advised to make use of MR41 as an alternative route.
• Khomas Region (Windhoek District)
• District Road 1466 (from B1-Windhoek-Rehoboth road to Oamites)
• A section on this road was severely damaged by the good rains in the area, thus road users are requested to exercise great caution. The road is only accessible with 4x4 vehicles only.
• Omaheke Redion (Gobabis District)
• Main Road 39 (C20) (between M40 – Near Gobabis and D1837 - to Leonardville)
• Sections on this road were damaged by the good rains in the area. However, the road is open to traffic and road users are requested to exercise caution when using this road. 

Namibia's Road Authority (RA), whose core business is to construct and maintain the country's road sector, has released an update on the status/condition of roads in Namibia that were damaged during the recent good rainfall (as of 16 January 2021):

• Kharas Region:
• Main Road (MR) 27 or tourist Route C16: From Keetmanshoop to Aroab
• The Stampriet and Guruchab Rivers have flooded this road and caused extensive damage to the sections near the River Bridges; hence, the road has been closed temporary to all traffic.
• Main Road (MR) 26 or Warmfontein road: From Keetmanshoop to Aroab
• MR 26 is being used as an alternative route from Keetmanshoop to Aroab. However, this road was damaged recently between kilometre 35 and kilometre 53. The road is still accessible and open to traffic. Road users must please exercise extra caution, drive slowly and observe the erected warning signs.
• Main Road 29 (MR 29): gravel road from Keetmanshoop to Mariental via Vaalgras
• MR 29 is now accessible and open to traffic, however, road users are requested to drive slowly and cautious as it is still raining in the area.
• Note: Road users from Koës to Keetmanshoop should take MR 24 east of Koës and proceed to MR 29 to Keetmanshoop as an alternative route.
• District Roads 609 & D 531: From Keetmanshoop to Berseba
• The Fish River crosses both roads. Currently, it is not safe to access both roads. The roads are closed temporary to all traffic.
• District Road DR707: From MR 35 to Betta along Namib Desert
• This road has been damaged extensively from kilometer 85 to kilometer 123. However, the road is still accessible and open to traffic. Road users are requested to exercise extreme caution while driving on this road. Only 4x4 vehicles are advised to use this road at this point in time.
• Main Road MR 33/C 15 & MR 41: From Stampriet to Hoachanas
• The Aoub River crosses both roads and currently it is not safe to access both roads. The roads are closed temporary to all traffic.
• Note: Road users between Stampriet and Hoachanas are advised to drive via Kalkrand MR 45, TR 1/4 and TR 5/1.
• Khomas Region (Windhoek District)
• Main Road (M) 52 (C28) (from end of tar to D1406) – 44km (Khomas/Hochland area)
• This road has been damaged by the good rains in the area, thus is only accessible with 4x4 vehicles.
• Otjozondjupa Region (Okanadja District)
• District Road (D) 2108 (from D2110 to D2414) – 25.9km
• The road is temporarily closed as a result of water covering large areas of the road, making the road impassible. Road users are requested to make use of alternative routes.
• District Road (D) 2121 (from D2110 to D2414) – 20.9km
• This road has been damaged by the good rains in the area and is extremely slippery, thus is only accessible with 4x4 vehicles.
• District Road (D) 2187 (from T1/7 – B1 to D2414) – 38.6km
• This road has been damaged by the good rains in the area, thus is only accessible with 4x4 vehicles.
• Hardap Region (Maltahöhe District)
• District Road (D) 831 (from D824 to D826) – 16km (Namib area)
• The road is temporarily closed as a result of water covering large areas of the road, making the road impassible. Road users are requested to make use of alternative routes.
• Omaheke Redion (Gobabis District)
• District Road (D) 3815 (from D3816 to D1004) – 20km (Aminius area)
• The road is temporarily closed as a result of water covering large areas of the road, making the road impassible. Road users are requested to make use of alternative routes.
