The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has released the Seasonal Climate Watch for the period January to May 2022. According to the multi-model rainfall forecast, the larger part of South Africa is expected to experience mostly above-normal rainfall during the late-summer (January to March) through to the mid-autumn (March - May) season. Mostly above-normal minimum temperatures are expected across South Africa during late-summer and early-autumn (February to April), except for the south-western parts of the country during mid-autumn when below-normal minimum temperatures are expected. Mostly below-normal maximum temperatures are expected across South Africa during late-summer and early-autumn, except for the north-eastern parts of the country during mid-autumn when above-normal maximum temperatures are expected.
