Delta Airlines, based in Atlanta (USA), announced that it has transported two million passengers in four years on its Africa services. The airline is currently operating direct flights from the U.S. to seven African cities in six African countries.
Delta Airlines launched its first African service in December 2006 (22 weekly departures) and have grown their operations to than 60 planned by January 2011. Delta is still the only airline to operate bi-directional nonstop flights between South Africa and the United States.
Since 2006, Delta, the world's largest airline operating under a single certificate, has transported:
- 647,205 passengers to and from Senegal
- 465,173 passengers to and from South Africa (Johannesburg)
- 333,573 passengers to and from Nigeria
- 322,457 passengers to and from Ghana
- 235,451 passengers to and from Egypt
- 1,047 passengers to and from Liberia
