The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) is currently in the process of re-introducing 15 Rothschild giraffes (5 male and 10 female) into the Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve in the Karamoja subregion of northeastern Uganda. A first batch of five animals has been released on 28 October 2019. The other 10 giraffes will follow within the next three weeks. The giraffes have been translocated from Murchison Falls National Park.
The UWA last year translocated 92 Impalas into Pian Upe Wildlife Resort, while its efforts to protect the wildlife in the resort aLso resulted in significantly increased numbers of e.g. Roan Antelope, Eland, Zebra, Hartebeest and Cheetah.
Through enhancing the conservation value of Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve the UWA hopes not just to resore and manage viable populations of extict or endangered species, but also to increase tourism in the region and create other benefits such as employment, sale of food and crafts as well as accommodation, increased revenue sharing and other indirect economic benefits.
The Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve is located in the northeastern semi-arid part of Uganda, spanning a land area of 2,043km². It is undisputedly the largest wildlife reserve in the country and the second largest protected area in Uganda, after the Murchison Falls National Park in northwest Uganda.

Uganda: Gorilla permit promotion in April, May & November 2016!
The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has launched a gorilla tracking promotion and a chimpanzee tracking promotion valid during the months of April and May 2016 (01 April - 31 May 2016) as well as during November 2016 (01 - 30 November 2016). According to a facebook post by the UWA, during the promotions foreign non residents will pay US$450 instead of US$600 for a gorilla permit and USD100 instead of USD150 for a chimpanzee permit. Foreign residents will pay US$400 (US$500) for gorilla tracking and USD75 (USD100) for chimpanzee tracking, while East Africans will part with Ush150,000 (Ush 250,000) for a gorilla permit and Ush75,000 (Ush100,000) for a chimpanzee permit. Uganda: Game Park tourists increased by 17.5% in 2013
The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), which manages 10 national parks and 12 wildlife reserves located in different parts of Uganda, has released the visitor numbers for 2013. According to the statistics, the visitor numbers increased from 182,149 in 2012 to 213,949 in 2013 which amounts to 17.5%. Foreigners contributed 43% of the visitors and the rest included Ugandans and East Africans.
Uganda's most visited park was Murchinson Falls National Park, followed by Queen Elizabeth National Parkand Kidepo National Park in the north eastern part of the Uganda. Lake Mburo National Park in Mbarara was the least visited park.

Uganda Wildlife Authority: New, reviewed conservation fees from Januar 2014
The Uganda Wildlife Authority has announced that the current conservation fees in Uganda, which came into effect on 01 July 2011, will remain valid until 31 December 2013 and not until 30 June 2013 as previously planned. A new and reviewed tariff system, through which the Uganda Wildlife Authority intends to improve the services to the clients
and tour operators in booking for permits and other activities offered, will be operational effective from 01 January 2014 and will remain in force until 31 December 2015. We'll keep you posted!

Uganda Wildlife Authority: The National Parks of Uganda (videos)
Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), Uganda's semi-autonomous government agency that conserves and manages the country’s wildlife, has released nine new videos (they are acutally more slide shows) about its National Parks. Uganda is known to be the prime bird watching destination in Africa with over 1,000 species of birds – several of which are found nowhere else on the planet. The country is also home to 13 types of primates including over half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas, as well as to our closest relative – the chimpanzee.

Uganda's most popular and most-visited tourist destination is located about 380 kilometres (by road) southwest of Kampala. Queen Elizabeth National Park, covering an estimated approx. 2000km², is home to 95 species of mammal, to about 600 species of birds and is famous for its volcanic features.

Foreign non residents will pay US$350 instead of US$500 for a gorilla permit, foreign residents US$300 (US$450) and East Africans will part with Ush150,000 (Ush 250,000) a permit. The promotion, which is open to all tour operators and partners, applies to unsold permits for this period and does not include prepayments before announcement of this promotion.
The gorilla permits under the promotional rates can only be obtained from the reservations office at Uganda Wildlife Authority's headquarters in Kampala and must be paid for in full in cash or via direct bank transfer at the time of booking. There will be no cash refunds, reschedules, cancellations and transfers allowed on promotion permits. No promotional permits will be sold at the park. Uganda Wildlife Authority: Uganda is home to more than 400 mountain gorillas
According to the latest census data (2011) released by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), the total world population of mountain gorillas has risen to 880. A total of 400 mountain gorillas (2006: 340) have been confirmed to be living in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda and 480 were counted in the Virunga Massif area, which spans parts of Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and Rwanda, in 2010.
Mountain gorillas live in social groups and the census results indicate that the 400 mountain gorillas in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park form 36 distinct social groups and 16 solitary males. Ten of these social groups are habituated to human presence for either tourism or research.
To celebrate Uganda's 50th Independence anniversary the management of the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has launched a Gorilla tracking promotion. Visitors wishing to track gorillas within the months of November 2012, April 2013 and May 2013 will pay US$350 (foreign non residents), US$300 (foreign residents) or Ush 150,000 (East Africans) for a permit.
