The Wild Coast, which formed part of the Transkei until 1994, stretches from East London in the south to the border of KwaZulu-Natal in the north. Popular tourist towns and villages along the Wild Coast include Port St Johns, Coffee Bay, Hole in the Wall, Kei Mouth and Chintsa. During Apartheid, the Transkei was an independent homeland politically and economically independent of South Africa.

Video: South Africa road trip (04:11min)
Javier Campllonch and his wife recently went on a road trip through South Africa. They started in Johannesburg, took a tour through Kruger National Park, hiked in the Drakensberg Mountains, drove through the Transkei, along the Sunshine Coast and the Garden Route and finally finished their trip in Cape Town. Luckily for us Javier filmed their trip and uploded the video to vimeo. Sit back, put your headphones on (does anyone know the song?), switch the video to full screen, press play and enjoy! South Africa: Mdumbi Backpackers (Wildcoast) gets FTTSA certification
Mdumbi Backpackers, situated on the Wildcoast in South Africa's Eastern Cape, is the latest FTTSA-certified tourism business in South Africa. Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA), a non-profit organisation that promotes sustainable tourism development, certified Mdumbi Backpackers because of the "wholehearted commitment and concerted efforts to leverage tourism opportunities for the benefit of the local area are evident in every aspect of their operations." Congrats Mdumbi!
Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) encourages and publicises fair and responsible business practice by South African tourism establishments. FTTSA is offering a certification programme (and supporting activities) that endorses tourism establishments that meet stringent criteria. The FTTSA certification process examines social, economic and environmental best practice in tourism businesses. The certification is offered on a voluntary basis to providers of tourist accommodation, activities, attractions and volunteer programmes in South Africa. The cost-effective quality management system addresses no fewer than 13 operational areas in a tourism business.

Earthdance is the largest global synchronized music and dance event in the world. It began with the vision of uniting the whole world through the universal platform of dance and music. This will be the first of many Earthdance global celebrations to be hosted at the beautiful Coffee Bay in Transkei. A little piece of paradise secluded and dedicated to this years experience boasts the advantage of being the perfect location for all trance, drum circle and live band party animals.
