Botswana reopens Gaborone, Central Kalahari & Khutse Game Reserves!

The Botswana Ministry of Environment and Tourism has announced the reopening of the Gaborone Game Reserve, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, and the Khutse Game Reserve today, 11 March 2025. These popular wildlife destinations had been temporarily closed since 21 February 2025 due to heavy rains that rendered the areas inaccessible.
Visitors are urged to exercise caution while driving in the reserves, as some areas remain flooded, and certain roads are still slippery and muddy, posing a risk to vehicles. In the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, areas and routes between Matswere Gate and Deception, Piper Pans, and Passarge are still affected by flooding.

Botswana: Temporary closure of three Game Reserves due to heavy rains!

The Botswana Ministry of Environment and Tourism has announced the temporary closure of the Gaborone Game Reserve, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, and the Khutse Game Reserve until further notice. The decision comes as ongoing heavy rains in Botswana have made these protected areas inaccessible. Authorities will continue to monitor the situation and reopen the reserves once conditions improve. Botswana: Gaborone Game Reserve has been re-opened!

Botswana's Department of Wildlife and National Parks has re-opened the Gaborone Game Reserve in Gaborone earlier today (15 October 2018). The Reserve was closed to the public since August 2018 due maintenance of sewerage lines by the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), a parastatal organisation wholly owned by the Government of Botswana.
The Gaborone Game Reserve is located on the western side of Gaborone about 1km east of the Broadhurst Mall. It covers an area of only 5km², but is third busiest game reserve in Botswana. Gaborone Game Reserve is home to wildebeest, elands, gemsboks, kudus, ostriches and warthogs as well as to a particularly plentiful birdlife. All roads in the reserve are accessible by two-wheel drives (2WD).

Botswana's Department of Wildlife and National Parks has closed the popular Gaborone Game Reserve in Gaborone to the public until further notice. This came about as a result of on-going maintenance of the sewerage lines by the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), a parastatal organisation wholly owned by the Government of Botswana.

Botswana: Temporary closure of Gaborone Game Reserve!

Botswana's Department of Wildlife and National Parks just informed the public that the popular Gaborone Game Reserve in Gaborone will be closed to the public between 16 - 27 October 2017. This is due to the fact that the facility will be used for interviews during the said period. The Gaborone Game Reserve will be open again from 28 October 2017 for business and leisure.
