Covid-19: Mozambique's most popular beaches are closed again!

According to the US Embassy in Maputo, some of the most popular beaches in Mozambique have been closed again. All other beaches in Mozambique are open daily between 06:00 to 17:00 for recreational activities. The sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages, recreational games and clusters is prohibited, in strict compliance with the sanitary protocol for the prevention of Covid-19. The closure is valid for 15 days starting from 06 October 2021. The following beaches in Mozambique are currently closed:
  • Costa do Sol and KaTembe, in Maputo City
  • Ponta do Ouro and Macaneta, in Maputo Province
  • Bilene and Xai-Xai, in Gaza Province
  • Tofo, Barra and Guinjata, in Inhambane Province
  • Estoril, Macúti and Ponta Gêa, in the City of Beira

  • Fernão Veloso and Chocas-Mar, in Nampula Province
  • Wimbe Maringanha, Sagal and Inos, in the Cty of Pemba
  • Chuanga-Metangula Beaches, Niassa Province
According to the Mozambique News Agency (AIM), the closure of Mozambique's most popular beaches is due to the general disobedience of the regulations, which allow swimming, walking and other physical activities at the country's beaches, but prohibit any social gatherings as well as the consumption or sale of alcohol. Beaches in Mozambique were only re-opened on 23 September 2021.
