According to the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority, Zimbabwe has lost 20 rhinos to illegal poaching in 2013, a drop of 66 percent compared with the previous year. A total of 60 rhinos got killed by poachers in 2012 and 84 were slaughtered in the peak poaching year of 2008. Zimbabwe is currently home to an estimated 450 black rhinos and 300 white rhinos.
Zimbabwe's direct neighbor country South Africa lost 1004 rhinos to illegal poaching activities in 2013, while Kenya in East Africa reported 59 rhinos killed by poachers.
