More airlines coming to Botswana

Botswana has signed eight Bilateral Air Services Agreements (BASA) with Belgium, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Qatar will be the ninth country to sign the agreement.
According to Botswana's Minister of Transport and Communications, Frank Ramsden, the Bilateral Air Services Agreements are intended to create a conducive environment for attracting more operators, including major airlines that will offer flights to and from Botswana from major destinations in the world.
At least nine airlines from these eight countries have already shown interest in doing business in Botswana and some of them might start operating flights to Botswana before the end of 2011.
Botswana also has a memoranda of understanding with Angola, Egypt, Ethiopia, Germany, France, Netherlands, Pakistan, Tanzania and United Arab Emirates regarding that topic.

In the meantime, Botswana's flag carrier Air Botswana started working on re-registering with the International Air Transport Associatian (IATA), after the airline was de-registered a few years ago when it was discovered that it had failed to comply with an IATA audit, safety and human resource requirements
