Johannesburg: "STAY UP - a street art film experience of Maboneng"!

Curiocity, a network of African design hostels in South Africa, has released a worth seeing documentary about street art in the Maboneng Precinct of Johannesburg. Filmed during the coronavirus lockdown, the murals, that are typically a silent backdrop, came alive, telling their own stories in this uniquely empty space created by the pandemic. "STAY UP - a street art film experience of Maboneng" is a tribute to the artists that are the fabric of this neighborhood, and their work that creates the energy that Maboneng is known for. Kudos to Kim Lieberman, VHILS, the postman_art, FALKO, Remed, Snowchino, dbongz_one, Karabo Poppy, ROA, Reggiethenomad, Link1, PASTELHEART, Kazy_Usclef, Nix_indamix,Ownurcrown, SENZAART911, FreddySam, Nelson Makamo, CYRCLE, ICY SIGNS as well as to Bheki Dube of Curiocity and everyone else involved in the production of the film.

Curiocity's first hostel - Curiocity Johannesburg - was opened up by Bheki Dube in the Maboneng Precinct of Johannesburg in 2013. It is one of the pioneering developments in the district that has fast become a centre of creative energy for Johannesburg's urban artists. Currently, Curiocity also has hostels located Durban (since 2016) and Cape Town (since 2019).

Sprite, the lemon-lime flavored soft drink, and The Fader, an independent Manhattan-based music/style/art/culture magazine, have teamed up to spotlight South Africa’s vibrant, emerging street culture through their brandnew "Obey You Collective: South Africa" campaign. During the month of January and February 2014 [update: and March 2014], Sprite & The Fader will present a series of six video documentaries highlighting some of South Africa’s most creative and interesting talents to bring you a look at the arts coming out of South Africa. 
A mini-documentary about Braamfontein, known as one of the Johannesburg's most creative neighborhoods, is the first video of the series. We will add the upcoming videos to the playlist below. Enjoy!

Faith47 - street art from Cape Town

Faith47 is a South African painter and street artist known best for the giant murals that adorn the city of Cape Town. Her images thrive on broken-down cars and old factories, down dusty side roads of lost towns and inner-city alleyways.

South Africa: rivalry between street artists Robbo and Bansky has been taken to a next level

The "rivalry" between street artists Robbo and Bansky has been taken to a next level with the release of a video which appears to have been shot in South Africa. It was made by a group called "Team Robbo". Does anyone know where in SA the film was made? Anyone seen the "King Robbo" graffiti somewhere?

Robbo and Bansky have been involved in a feud since December 2009, when the Sunday Times Online reported that Banksy crossed one of his own pieces over a graffiti by Robbo in London. Robbo hit back by returning to the site and painting "King Robbo" in big letters over Banksy’s work, making it seem as though Banksy’s own painted figure was saying the words.
