Air Mauritius resumes direct flights to Cape Town!

Air Mauritius, the flag carrier of Mauritius, is set to re-commence its year-round direct service  to Cape Town in South Africa. Effective 19 March 2023, the airline will operate two weekly flights between Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) on Mauritius, the main island of Republic of Mauritius, and Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town.

Air Mauritius currently also operates six weekly flights between Mauritius and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg.

Effective 16 November 2022, the airline will operate two weekly flights between Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) on Mauritius, the main island of Republic of Mauritius, and Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town. Flights will be operated on Wednesdays and Sundays on board a new generation Airbus A350/A330neo aircraft.
Air Mauritius currently operates one daily flight between Mauritius and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg with additional capacity in June, July and October.

Air Mauritius to resume passenger commercial flights from South Africa!

Air Mauritius, the flag carrier of Mauritius, suspended all passenger commercial flights from South Africa on 29 November 2021 due to the detection of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in South Africa. Following the decision from the Government of Mauritius to lift the travel ban on South Africa from today (07 January 2022), the airline immediatly reacted and announced the resumption of its passenger commercial flights from Johannesburg in South Africa as from 09 January 2022. Air Mauritius is planning to operate five weekly flights for the month of January 2022 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays on board an Airbus A350-900/ A330-900neo aircraft. Daily passenger commercial operations to and from Johannesburg have been scheduled as from 01 February 2022.

Air Mauritius to increase flights between Mauritius <> Johannesburg!

The flag carrier of Mauritius, Air Mauritius, is set to expand its services to Johannesburg. The airline, which resumed flights to South Africa on 01 October 2021, will increase the frequency of flights between Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) on Mauritius, the main island of Republic of Mauritius, and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg from the current four weekly flights to seven weekly flights from 07 November 2021. According to the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA), Air Mauritius is seeing a surge in bookings for Mauritius following the reopening of the country’s borders. In this context, the airline is  increasing flights to and from the most popular markets, including South Africa.

Air Mauritius to increase flights between Mauritius <> Durban!

The flag carrier of Mauritius, Air Mauritius, is set to introduce a fourth weekly flight between Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) on Mauritius and King Shaka International Airport (DUR) in Durban. The airline, which already operates return flights to Durban on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, will add a flight on Sundays from 18 April 2018.

Air Mauritius to suspend flights to Maputo!

The flag carrier airline of Mauritius, Air Mauritius, is set to suspend its service to Maputo. The airline currently operates flights to Mozambique's capital as part of its service between Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) on Mauritius and Durban's King Shaka International Airport (DUR). Effective 09 August 2017, Air Mauritius will replace the Mauritius > Maputo > Durban > Mauritius route with a direct Mauritius <> Durban route.

Air Mauritius to resume flights to Durban

Air Mauritius, the flag carrier of the island nation of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, is set to reintroduce flights between its main base at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU), located southeast of Port Louis, and King Shaka International Airport (DUR) in Durban. As from 05 July 2013 the airline will operate two weekly flights onboard an Airbus A319 between the two destinations.

With the reintroduction of the twice-weekly flights to Durban, Air Mauritius decided to discontinue its night flights on the Mauritius <> Johannesburg route from 02 May 2013. Operations to Johannesburg at daytime will remain unchanged at a frequency of 7 flights a week. During peak periods, Air Mauritius may operate supplementary flights on Johannesburg and Durban to cater for additional demand. As part of the airline’s cost-saving plan, Air Mauritius dropped its direct route to Durban in October 2012.

Air Mauritius presently flies to eighteen destinations in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and the Indian Ocean.

update (30 Aug 2012): The flag carrier of Mauritius, Air Mauritius, announced via twitter, that it will operate two weekly Durban night flights on Fridays & Sundays from 21 December 2012 to 13 January 201.

The the flag carrier of Mauritius, Air Mauritius, has revised its planned service increase to Africa starting 28 Oct 2012.

The airline will, as previously planned, increase the number of weekly flights from 2 to 3.

Mauritius (MRU) <> Johannesburg (JNB)
Instead of the planned 14 weekly flights, Air Mauritius will increase the service from currently 5 weekly flights to 10 weekly flights.

Mauritius (MRU) <> Nairobi (NBO)
The airline will, as previously planned, increase the number of weekly flights from 2 to 3.

Mauritius (MRU) <> Antananarivo (TNR)
Instead of the planned 6 weekly flights, Air Mauritius will increase the service from currently 4 weekly flights to 5 weekly flights with operational aircraft changes.

Air Mauritius has currently codeshare agreements with Air France (Mauritius <> Paris, on several European routes radiating from Paris), Emirates (Mauritius <> Dubai), Malaysia Airlines (on some routes radiating from Kuala Lumpur) and with South African Airways (Mauritius <> Johannesburg).
Mauritius' international Airport Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (known as SSR Airport), the main hub of Air Mauritius, is located at Plaine Magnien about 48km southeast of Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius.

Air Mauritius to cut Durban route in October 2012

The flag carrier of Mauritius, Air Mauritius, is cutting several routes and plans to focus on fewer markets with more frequencies after a record loss was reported for the last financial quarter.
As part of the airline’s cost-saving plan, Air Mauritius will discontinue its direct route to Durban, South Africa. Air Mauritius, one of only three to fly internationally out of Durban’s King Shaka International Airport, will stop flights on the route in October 2012. The remaining two international airlines flying in and out King Shaka are LAM – Mozambique Airlines, which is offering direct flights to Maputo, and Emirates, offering direct flights to Dubai.
To meet the demand during the peak-season, Air Mauritius considers to add a second daily flight from Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport to its schedule. No good news for Durban and its new King Shaka International Airport.
