Namibia: Free entry to heritage sites during the "Namibian Heritage Week 2023"!

Namibia is celebrating the Namibian Heritage Week 2023 from 18 September 2023 to 24 September 2023. During these seven days, entrance will be waived for Namibians at (selected) heritage sites in Namibia managed by the National Heritage Council of Namibia. The opening times are daily from 08:00 to 17:00. In addition, traditional food will be on sale at Twyfelfontein World Heritage Site, Petrified Forest National Heritage Site and at Omugulugwoombashe National Heritage Site. Cultural performances will take place at at Lake Otjikoto National Heritage Site. Public talks ("Namibia's indigenous astronomy") will be held at 10:00 at the Grootfontein Museum in Grootfontein and "Built Heritage Tours" will take place at 09:00, 12:00 and 14:30 in Tsumeb. Bookings are required for the tours in Tsumeb.

The following (heritage) sites in Namibia will take part in the Namibian Heritage Week 2023:

  • Petrified Forest National Heritage Site

  • Omugulugwoombashe National Heritage Site
  • Heroes Acre National Heritage Site
  • Ondeshifiilwa National Heritage Site
  • Grootfontein
  • Tsumeb

Namibia: Three heritage sites in Northwestern Namibia to operate half day only on 19 December 2017!

The National Heritage Council of Namibia just informed the public that three heritage sites in Northwestern Namibia, namely the Twyfelfontein World Heritage Site, the Petrified Forest Heritage Site and the Brandberg Heritage Site, will only be open half day on 19 December 2017 due to an official function. Normal business hours will resume as from 20 December 2017.

The Twyfelfontein World Heritage Site is located 20 km south of the C39 major road from Sesfontein to Khorixas. From there it is connected by the district road D3214. The Petrified Forest lies some 40 km west of
Khorixas, also on the C39 road. The Brandberg Mountain is located about 30 km from Uis.
