Limpopo (South Africa): Makhodo renamed Louis Trichard again!
After a long and controversial name changing process the town of Makhodo in Limpopo is now named Louis Trichard again. Louis Trichardt is located at the foot of the Soutpansberg mountain range about 450km from Johannesburg (N1) and just about an one hours drive along the N1 from the border to Zimbabwe at Beitbridge.

The Mashovela Lodge in Makhado (Limpopo) receives FTTSA certification
The Mashovela Lodge in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) in South Africa's Limpopo province is the latest establishment to receive a Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA)-certification.
The Venda styled, eco-friendly lodge dedicates a lot of work to operate a sustainable tourism business. The Mashovela Lodge strives to minimise impact on the environment, spread benefits throughout the local economy and promote community wellbeing. The lodge is entirely detached from Eskom's power-grid and in order to minimize the emission of greenhouse gases, the lodge runs on alternative, renewable and sustainable energy. Their hot water is heated by solar energy, supplemented by (alien) wood-fired boilers. For electricity they rely on photovoltaic solar energy, supplemented by diesel generators.
The Mashovela Lodge, which is located in the Morning Sun Nature Reserve in the malaria free Soutpansberg Mountains, offers 10 intimate en-suite chalets and has a restaurant, a cocktail bar, a conference venue, a boma, a swimming pool as well as an arts and crafts shop.
The Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) certification is an independent endorsement of fair and responsible tourism practice in South Africa. It is based on adherence to specific criteria including fair wages and working conditions, fair distribution of benefits, ethical business practice, and respect for human rights, culture and the environment. Certification is offered on a voluntary basis to providers of tourist accommodation, activities and attractions.
