Ethiopia's flag carrier, Ethiopian Airlines, announced that it has changed the ultra-long haul route from Bole International Airport (ADD) in Addis Ababa to Los Angeles International Airpor (LAX) in Los Angeles to transit through Tokoin International Airport (LFW) in Lome, Togo as of 17 December 2018 and will start new route from Addis Ababa to Dublin Airport (DUB) in Dublin via Adolfo SuΓ‘rez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD) in Madrid as of 15 December 2018.
The new route, which be operated on board the most technologically advanced Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, will be the only and first of its kind to connect West Africa with the West Coast of the USA with a direct flight.

Ethiopian Airlines plans to launch flights to Los Angeles via Dublin
update (22 Oct 2014): According to aviation specialist Airline Route, Ethiopian Airlines revised its plans and will now begin operation from Los Angeles on 18 June 2015, Addis Ababa on 19 June 2015.
update (17 Oct 2014): Ethiopian Airlines is set to launch its three weekly service Addis Ababa – Dublin – Los Angeles on board Boeing 787-8 aircraft on 03 June 2015!
According to the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, Tewolde Gebremariam, Los Angeles might soon become the second US destination of the airline. Due to the long flight between the two destinations, the airline plans to service the route via Dublin in Ireland. If everything goes according to schedule, Ethiopian Airlines will launch the flight to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in Los Angeles in 2015. The airline, which is based at Bole International Airport (ADD) in Addis Ababa, already operates flights to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), located in Dulles, Virginia, 40km west of Washington, D.C..
